LED tail light suggestions?

Yes--the halogens get real hot, and that's not good for the plastic lens or the wiring.

Everybody should be aware that some types of LEDs get very hot too. Those aluminum heat sinks are not high-tech bling. They are needed to keep the LEDs from burning up!

I think it is also important to note that the problem with any lights isn't really that the lights are hard to see at night. The problem is that they are not bright enough to see well during the day, when there is a lot of daylight, and little contrast.

I really look forward to the day when the perfect replacement is available

Also, as far as I'm concerned the copper loops that hold the bullet connectors are a terrible design and a short circuit waiting to happen. I put a tiny bit of Locktite on mine and will add fuses soon. Charlie

I wish I would have seen your post before I bought my last LED's, Charlie.
I found out quickly how the ones that point down are useless in this car, and even the omnidirectional type are worse. For my Ford Falcon they work great, but the Bugeye is unique. Not sure what I am going to do now. I am not drilling into sheet metal nor do I have a roll bar to attach one of the third lights. As was mentioned here, they are making different lighting bases for later sprites, but I have not found ones that will work for this car yet.

I should probably copy down my reply into a Word document, since this comes up here every few months.

I don't know, I just can't get into the ones that use a couple dozen LEDs to do the job of a two filament lamp. I can see how the LEDs would work really well on a Falcon, though.

I am thinking that the third rear lights are available with magnetic bases. That would be the ticket, perhaps mount it right above the license plate lights. If you are worried about being seen LOL  these would work.
