Yes--the halogens get real hot, and that's not good for the plastic lens or the wiring.
Everybody should be aware that some types of LEDs get very hot too. Those aluminum heat sinks are not high-tech bling. They are needed to keep the LEDs from burning up!
I think it is also important to note that the problem with any lights isn't really that the lights are hard to see at night. The problem is that they are not bright enough to see well during the day, when there is a lot of daylight, and little contrast.
I really look forward to the day when the perfect replacement is available
Also, as far as I'm concerned the copper loops that hold the bullet connectors are a terrible design and a short circuit waiting to happen. I put a tiny bit of Locktite on mine and will add fuses soon.
