Wow Well I have fianly driven the Shaguar I started the project 4 years ago in Miami with my mechanic from chilly I finished (HA not quite) with a swedsih buddy. there is a question at the end of this.
ok so I put the new tank in I wired it up cut out out the old floors welded in the new floors. we redid the brakes turnd the rear drums. frid a bunch of points finally gave up and disconected the tach. and we had a guy come over and balnence the carbs so they ran sweeeeet!!! oh and new European head lights.
I had a big oil leak at the back of the block so I sent it off to mechanic from Latfia he pulled the engine and put in all the seals at the bottom of the block but the gear box was empty an he was worried about the oil leaking out the front. we found out it should. but he did try and engeener a bit of a grommet on the front of the tranny under the front plate

he tossed it back together ran it for 20 minutes with no leaks
and hoped off on vacation. I picked the car up this morning for my import and EU inspection well 4 miles later im leaking oil again.. I took it to the in spection it pass it took two hours and the only thing they dint like was the light aiming.
and after alot of paper work
they didn't like my license plate P-1275 which was the only letter available with 1275 so I had to order new plates with out a "P" so next week I get i-275. so Mats and I checked all the fluids and then went for a long drive with the top down
a little rain on the windshield. after an hour we got to a place with 6000 year old rock carving and stopped Mats advance the timing a little and we noticed a bit of smoke yes smoke coming out of the top rubber seal of the transmission bell housing. so we let it cool looked at the rain deer carving and the man on skis. then drove back to mats place at which point we checked the fliuds we went from 2mm under max to 1 mm under min!!! some left by blowing out the dip stick but most was dripping out the bell housing and it looked pretty clean so maybe that came from the tranny.
why wont it Stop!!!!!!
any ideas???

and I gave Mats a bottle of Highland Park (400nrk twice the price as in the US) thanking him for his pit and welder and a thousand other little kindnesses

If you have it blowing out the dipstick at all, it sounds like the crankcase breather on the front timing cover isn't under vacuum. There should be a little "canister" on the front of the engine, driver's side.

This should be plumbed up to the carbs. If you have HS2's, it goes up in between the two carbs, and then there's a "Y" splitter that would run to each carb. There should be two ports, one on each carb, on the throttle shaft side.

I used to leak oil like a sieve out of the rear of the engine, but now I'll only get 2-3 drops at the most when it's shut off. MUCH improvement!

ohhh so the canister hooks in there
ok I have SUs and there are two hose places on either side of each carbs that I just have blocked off.
I new that canseter thingy might have something to do with it maybe thats why both my last two midget engine droped oil

LOL, if it wasn't so serious I would laugh. Just keep in mind I am laughing in releaf with you.

such a simple thing that can cause such a problem.

Congratulations on the inspection!
I'm just wondering what they charge for those "special" number plates. Here they want 7000kr which is about $1460.

Sounds like clean oil is from the gearbox. Unless the engine oil is still clean.

Definitely keep that carb vacuum on the breather. Otherwise the crankcase pressure builds up and all the oil goes out the rear seal.

When I first got it my 1275 leaked out the back when accellerating hard. This engine was new to me and I did not know about the absense of a rear main seal. It seemed to have a lot of blowby, and I assumed that that was aclue to the problem. As a test, I removed the oil cap/breather from the valve cover and replaced it with a rag folded double and held on with a hose clamp. I then drove the car hard. There were no leaks. So, I decided that an excess of blowby was the reason for the oil leaks and I was right (broken rings).

Does your engine have a lot of blowby? Be sure to hook up your crankcase breather system correctly and try it again.

Im hopeing it is that we have hooked up the caniser to the inlet manifold I saw that pictured in one of the books.

but i havent started it today I poped off the dash and fixed a few things. broken rings ohh that is scary

the specialty plate cost 720 nkrs about 140 dollars my friends idea its silly but If it makes my friends happy they have been so helpful I can do that. saddly Im moving to holland soon.

but I will write up the saga
