I know some will disagree,but Teflon tape/ribbon packing is great for a leaking ferrule.But you must wrap the ferrule,not the treads.This is a permanent fix.The Macys kit looks like half a Swagelok type fitting,precision face to meet the non existing matching seat.I am suprised they work that well.This observation is based on years as refinery mechanic.Your experience may differ.Obviously the correct shape ferrule is the best start. TomFWIW, I put a BUNA o-ring from a HF kit, between the outlet and the ferrule. Didn't have much hope it would work, but it hasn't weeped for over a year. It cured a long-term gas weeping problem for me. No more gas smell in the garage, happily.
