Leak on H-1 Float Bowl

First, SA comments about that happening with age. We all know that.

When I attached my float bowl , to the bottom of the carb. using "Hold Up Bolt" a flat washer, then a float bowl rubber grommet on each side, the "Hold Up Bolt" seems to be bottoming out. Can't make it stop leaking and it is tight. New rubber grommets.Any suggestions. Would adding another flat washer cause any problem with the fuel flow?

Should not just off hand, try it you may like it. LOL

Could also be something stuck up in there, check with a pick.

I did add a couple of fiber washers and it snugged up and no leak. So far so good, but it was getting dark.

A lot of the problems with my car seem to go away when it gets dark too. :jester: seriously, hope it works

I've gone all around on this. It's a LOUSY design. 'Course, that's nothing special or unusual for these cars.

Part of the problem I've determined, is that the float bowl can move, even after the whole thing is put together and snugged up. This somehow distorts the seal and allows leaking. So, make sure that the fuel line can't wiggle around, relative to the carb body, under engine vibration, and move the float bowls around in response. It doesn't take much movement to start that &^$!#* thing leaking.

I've found that some experimentation with washer thickness has helped--you don't want to compress those rubber seals either too much or two little. About 20% compression is right.

After this kind of experimentation, mine are (finally!) not leaking any more. Knock on wood, and all that.
