LBC vs. the Muscle Cars!

I went to two local "cruise-in" car shows this weekend, both within a short drive of my home. A cruise-in show is just that, just drive in and park your car. You can register for a small fee/donation, or not. I chose not to register because I was leaving soon for another show.

So, I cruised in my '74 MG Midget and parked between a '69 Pontiac GTO (nicely restored) and a shiny 1967 Camaro. Mine was the only foreign car in the show, which featured about 35 cars, mostly '60s muscle cars with a few hot rods, etc. Most were very nice, some exceptional.

Well, after about 30 minutes the event organizer approached me to ask if I was going to register my car! He said that several people wanted to vote for the MG, but it had no registration number so they couldn't vote!

Holy cow, go figure: the muscle car crowd loves MGs! Who woulda thunk it?

LOL!

In my experience, they love Triumphs and everything else just as much. In fact, I find most local "cruise-in" shows to be the most enjoyable as they seem to attract true car people. Not just Ford guys or MoPar guys, and not just folks who drop the car off their climate-controlled trailer and spend an entire show re-dusting and re-polishing...and chasing away kids who might put a fingerprint on it.

Example: last spring a friend helped me trailer home a Herald sedan I'd bought. Frankly, it looked very much the $216 I'd bid for it on eBay (thankfully it was a fairly local car). On the way home, we stopped at a local food stand that happened to be hosting a cruise-in...and had trouble ordering food or looking at the other cars, since all the attendees came over and started chatting with us about the Herald! Naturally, we responded and did get to both eat and admire their cars as well...a wonderful mixture of rodded and stock, mostly 1950/60s American iron.

Otherwise, I haven't been to any local cruise-ins for the past couple of years, but I never had any trouble "fitting in" with my (avatar) Herald!

Cream rising to the top, as they say. Cream rising to the top.

When Spidey and I go to the muscle car cruises, I alway get razzed about where's the other half of the motor.

I friend I was visiting yesterday. Actually absconding with stuff, was telling the story to me about a female friend he has helped out with her car lately and they were at a street cruise and park and everyone was giving her a hard time about being at the wrong event.

Some peoples kids
