Last minute check before engine install

Dale,

Yes, I did have to drill holes in the X-frame for the rear O/D mount bolts. I did use the rocker shaft studs to lift the motor, but can understand your concern for lifting the combined engine and transmission that way. That was also one of the reasons I installed the motor and transmission separately. If you decide not to install the engine and transmission as a unit, I can provide you with photos of the home made rigging I used. PM me anytime with questions. I am "taking my time" with this restoration and you may very well pass me up progress wise in the future, so I may have to contact you with questions at that point.

Griz,

Did you use nutserts in the x-frame for the OD mount bolts? Should I be concerned about aligning the drive train, or do the center cross holes/bolts position the OD correctly?

I'm taking my time also. I enjoy the time in the garage with car guys or alone. It's very relaxing.

I used the pre-drilled holes to locate and center the transmission and then drilled the holes in the x-frame. I did not use any kind of insert, instead I tapped threads into the frame member. I figure that Marty's frames have enough wall thickness to handle any of the stresses put on these four bolts, especially with the two center bolts installed. One thing I did run into is that on the driver's side the new floor pan interfered with the solenoid box on the O/D unit. I had to cut a portion of it away to get the transmission centered in the frame. Let me know if you have this problem too.

Engine installed, without the gearbox, after 10 years out of the car. What a feeling!

While preparing the install I attempted to install the clutch. The BJ7 is a transition car. I knew that but I didn't know that mid production they moved from a 10" clutch to a 9 1/2" clutch. My car takes a 10" clutch. I bought the 9 1/2" a few years ago so I can't return it. Anyone want to buy a new in the box 9 1/2" clutch kit? :rolleye:

I ordered a 10" clutch kit and will be ready to complete the rest of the drive train when it arrives. I haven't been this excited since I was a kid.
