On a remote locale, need torque spec's for the rear main axle hub nut on one of these things...

According to Haynes, if it is a swing axle then 217 ft-lb. For double-jointed it is 253 ft-lb. I know they are on there tight enough that I broke a good breakover trying to get one off once.

Yup.... but this wound up in a totally "Different Place"!! :laugh:
 
Worked on 600 ft/lb over here, or as tight as you can, which meant adding about 6' of pipe to the socket and then swinging on it!, allows for friction etc losses :smile:, mind you you have to tie the car down so the wheels dont slip/body lift!
 
:lol: Dang zblu, you must have installed that one that broke my breakover trying to get it off.

Sounds like a mechanic frien when I asked him how much torque for some odd thing. His answer was "Just tighten it until you feel the threads start to strip then back off a quarter turn."
 
And don't forget that cotter pin.
