Just for authenticity sake: Choke cable

The choke cable on my BE works fine, but it is plain black w/o the letter "C."

Do the replacement cables sold by Moss or VB have the letter on the knob?

Mike Pennell

Yes and its the large "C" not the small "c". I may have an old correct one that you can have if you would like.

I don't think it's original/correct for any of the cars he listed.

Ask Jack for a photo

Mark

That one listed above is the one Moss thinks is correct.

The correct one looks just like the other knobs you have but has a C in the middle the same size as the others on the dash.

~IF~ you can find an old knob and cable end, you can MacGyver a new cable. I whacked the new knob off with a Dremel, threaded the "stump" with an 8x32 die. Drilled the old hex shaft and threaded it same with a tap.

Nope, MacGyver would have used paper clip, a lighter, and elastic from his underwear.

I found the pilot to MacGyver was available on one of the network web sites. I hooked up our laptop to the TV just so our sons could see what mom and I have been meant when we talk about MacGyver.

I can tell you that the choke cable that M__S shows for '69 Spridgets and up is absolutely crap quality. I replaced the cable on Bugsy with the less expensive variety, $11.85 vs. $16.95. It lasted exactly 2 months with limited driving / usage before it siezed up. I then had to go through the aggravation of replacing the cable all over again. A definite difference in the quality of the feel of the two cables as well.

Jim... your computer has developed a stutter.

Neither of those two knobs you show are correct for a Bugey Doc.

They should look like this.

It's the one on Jack's car

Cheers

Thanks guys.

So the moral of this story is:

- For authenticty sake avoid the Moss/VB offerings.
- For performance sake avoid the Moss/VB offerings.
- Stick with the cable I'm using until I can find an authentic replacement.

Thanks,
Mike Pennell

I have a T-handle cable on both my cars. People enjoy telling me that they are incorrect, but I like the way they work. Easy to pull, easy to lock, and easy to see it is locked ...and ugly!

The one in the photo is for an MGB, the method for converting the cable to be 'proper' for the frogeye knob will work the same. The knobs are interchangeable.

Why my goodness that looks just like mine. hehe.
