Just curious while waiting on parts!!

OK guys...I'm attaching a couple of photos of our air filter housings. We have filters but, other than those, these are all we have. Looking at page 114 in the VictoriaBritish catalog we appear to need a whole bunch of other stuff like #9,10,11 & 12. We can't tell for sure. Of course we have the bolts to hold them on.

Housing on right is front. Can you see the little tab on the rear plate? What's that for?

Also, if those two springs don't go where we have them, where DO they go...we don't see any other option.
 
The last time I was in Berkeley, one of my instructors at TI wanted to mount a pair of 50's on top of his WWII weapons carrier and help get the students evicted from the buildings......
Good, Lord, that was 1969, I think.

Little too far south of me now to just run over and help.
 
Gary, you do need 9, 10 and 11 but you don't need 12 because that is the spacer block that is behind your carb, not in front. You already have those installed. As I recall, that little tab is for a clamp that holds in place the float bowl overflow line which loops over the tops of the air cleaners as it runs between the two float bowls. Mine broke off in about 1975 and I never put it back on.

Regarding the two springs, I think you've got one too many springs. One of them attaches to the choke cable bracket that you've probably ordered, and as shown in Doc's photo. The other one I believe is superfluous, but I don't think it hurts to keep it where you've got it.
 
A little late to the topic, but to expand on the original photos... the first picture is a seat belt hanger for Kangor "hook" belts. The hook hangs on that piece, just behind the seat, when not in use.

The stowaway frame was used on early MGB not as standard, but as an alternative to the scissor-type frame. Later cars used a better method of folding the attached frames.
 
Well, I s'pose we're gonna need to define terms... The spring(s) in the photo are exerting the tension on the jets & linkage in the proper direction to keep them in place for normal running... after it's up to temp. SUs don't really HAVE a "choke" per-se anyhoo!!! Rather an "enrichment device". And a crude one at that.
 
The only problem I see with the linkage itself is you're going to have to loosen the part that holds the choke setup & move it over closer to the choke cable.

Kinda looks like a PO moved it and "engineer'd" a center pull setup somehow. It would be a LOT simpler to get the proper setup and do it right one time, IMO.

The arm on the linkage is a simple "pinch-bolt" arrangement and can be loosened and the arm relocated with little effort.
 
So we should move that arm closer to the front carb where the are that holds the cable end is? What "proper setup" are you saying that we should get?
 
yup. Once you have the front carb's rear bracket, bolt it up to the carb with some shorter bolts (sans the "can" and all that) and line up that arm so the cable is as close to in-line with the attachment point on the bracket as practical. I've a couple sets of SU's inna shed, I'll try and make some illustrative pix tomorrow some time.
 
Guess I could go out & take photos of my 74-1/2 GT's carbs that've just been rebuilt & don't have ther air cleaners on them yet....if needed.
