Hi everyone,
I've got a '62 Mk2 that's awaiting something ... either restoration, parting out, or being sold. I'm wondering how mk2 values are out in the real world so I can figure out if I can restore it or if I'd be better off parting it. If I do keep it, I'm wondering how certain resto choices may affect value, in particular:
a) paint color - should I stay w/ original color, or will a color change (which would be done well and completely) reduce value?
b) trannys - it's a slushbox now, but I would much prefer a manual. Would the tranny change reduce value, or not if I used a period correct Jag trans. I would prefer to use a later all synchro trans (OD if possible), or possibly even a 5 speed conv. I drove an XK120 w/ a Moss 'box once and it was about the worst trans I've ever driven, and that includes old American pickups w/ column-shift 3 speeds. I'm sure it wasn't in tip-top shape, but still..
If I do restore this car, its not something I plan on keeping forever, like my MGB, so I don't want to do anything that would negatively affect value. If I actually made money on it that would be great, but I'm not counting on it
)Thanks for any comments.
