I've been back at Franks hood with the Rustoleum rattle cans again. Today (after fixing the brake lights) I wet sanded the brown rustoleum rattle can paint job consisting of three coats of 78 Midget brown. (they might as well call it that, it's such a match!).
So today I planned on spraying on the "crystal clear coat".
I sanded and got it smooth enough and wiped it all down and sprayed away. There were a couple runs so I waited a bit & sanded them out and then sanded the whole thing again and sprayed it one more time.
The can says it should be used between 70 - 80 degrees.
It's 77 out there.
I've got shade. A nice 12 x 12 pop up shade tent thing.
So how come the coat is all kind of 'frosted' looking?
Have I done something wrong?
What next?

I didn't see that spec on the can :laugh: I've no idea what it is out there.

Just went out, it's dry.
Some of the white stuff wipes off with a dry towel, I don't want to rub too hard at this point.

I'm thinking I'll get another can of brown - that looked a lot better.
What do you guys think?

I think I would try a bit of 2500 or 3K grit sandpaper and see how it is. You can get it by the sheet.

Be careful with Rustoleums clear. I did a rustoleum flame job on my tractor and the clear pealed some spots back up. Ive had it happen on parts that I didnt let cure for 48hrs too. So I would give it a few days to dry before spraying with the clear.

Thanks guys, I gave the brown stuff a couple weeks before I put any clear on. Then I also scuffed up the brown with some wet &* dry, so I think it was OK.
I'll try the fine sandpaper in a couple days & see what happens.

Maybe it was the humidity question above.
I couldn't seem to get it to 'go on wet' unless I held it too close & got runs.
I might sand it down and try again early in the morning on Saturday.

Yup... definitely a lot harder with rattle-cans than with a gun.

Not so much with the brown paint, but the clear was a whole different animal. It was definitely a hotter day, after a week of solid sunshine.

Got to be real close with a rattle can on a hot day.

Yeah, it was definitely cooler the last time.
I think the early morning after the dew evaporates off the windshield will me my next attempt. Should be Saturday, before then I'll use some fine paper & sand it good.
Heck - might as well start with some 2500 & see if it shines up first, you never know - this was the second coat of clear after all.
