It's a small thing, but WOW.

No way is that thread size 10-24...Most likely 3/8"-24, or possibly 5/16"-24. I think you grabbed the wrong picture in your initial post. Go back and look at that die that you used. I bettin' on 3/8"-24.

BTW, on the TR3 ALL screws smaller then 1/4" are British Association threads. The most common mistake owner's of TR3s make is to use a 10-32 tap instead of a 2BA size. The major diameters are virtually the same and the thread pitch is very close...the 2BA having 31.4 tpi as opposed to 32 tpi. But the thread angles are completely different. BA thread angles are 47.5 deg, not 60 degrees.

If you're doing a resto on a TR2 or TR3 it would be wise to get taps and dies in the 2BA and 4BA sizes. I haven't run across any sizes other then those, unless you get into speedo, tach and other gauge work that has very small screws.

I 'gree. Nut 102 is factory P/N YN2909, which is 3/8" NF.

[/QUOTE]ISTR Some of the carb fasteners are BSF; while I believe at least some threads are actually 10-32 instead of 2BA. For example, the nut that fastens the bracket on the back of the cubby box is P/N HN2005, which is 10-32.

I forgot about the carbs... :eeek:

Randall, is that the only 10-32 you ran across?? Every screw hole that I had to re-tap that measured 0.185" turned out to be a 2BA. I bought a new bracket & nut for the glove box, so I never checked the size.

So make that MOST screws smaller then 1/4" on the TR3s are BA threads.

Oh, yeah, probably should have mentioned I grabbed a random picture when I couldn't find the exact size. Duh.

I should have known someone here would pay attention to the details.

Sorry guys.

That's what I figured, until Donn asked the question.

There are others, but honestly I don't keep careful track of such things. That was just one I happened to look up recently and it stuck in my head. ISTR the studs that hold the instrument panel to the dash are also 10-32; and maybe at least some of the fasteners for the scuttle vent.

The instrument mounting studs are oddball metric sizes (as you alluded to). There's probably more that I'm not remembering offhand.
