Is this hole original?

My '62 Sprite Mk II under primer. This hole was covered by some sort of thin plate, attached with two self tapping screws. Maybe a way to try and make clutch slave easier, or speedo cable connection?

Big oval one is the transmission fill hole. Usually covered with a rubber plug.

Small round one is standard and used to Lubricate the front U-joint on the Driveshaft.

Normally a round rubber plug fits there. BTW, the small round rubber plug acquires excess grease from the lubrication and deteriorates (transforms) into a small black lump that will saturate the back of your carpet and make it look bad!

BTDT

YMMV
