Is This BE Really Worth 32.5K?

I've always liked the X1/9, too...engine's a pain to work on, though. That always made the disqualifying factor for me.

I think anything mid engine is a pain to wrench but they're cool. I test drove one before I got the Midget. I had it's picture on the fridge for a bit while I thought about it and the wife and kids just went on and on about how ugly it was......silly family. It was a nice ride, targa, tight, nimble certainly not a screamer though. There's a nice one on ebay not too far from me but what the heck would I do with ANOTHER toy I can't drive half the year? Maybe in a few years.....

The car is probably quite nice to drive. It seems not a lot different than most other completely standard BEs other than the windshield / top and paint. The paint I could live with. Don't they get rain in St.Louis too? My car wasn't a lot different when I bought it, except for the paint, windshield, top, heater motor. Of course I paid $260 for it (in 1973).

What it cost to build has no relevance to its value though.

Sure it does, if you want one like it, or you are insuring it for replacement value.

But my only point is, I don't see how they got the value up to 32K

Excellent point! I never understood why we tend to tear apart a car that is for sale. How can any of ours be worth much as a result?

No. Why buy a gokart, that kind of money get something that is desirable such as a Jag or a Vette- and much more joy. Besides, people don't laugh at you, either.

I don't think I'd go so far as to say a Spridget isn't desireable, (especially here!) and doesn't bring joy (especially here) or makes people laugh at you or equate it with a gokart.

the only reason I'd take a Vette or Jag over a Spridget is that I know if I don't like it as well as my Midget, I can sell it and get 7 or 8 killer Spridgets.....let 'em laugh, doesn't bother me a bit.

Bidding ended at $15,500, with a winning bidder with a feedback rating of 6. I'll bet it show up on eBay again with no explanation on why the first deal fell through.
