Sorry I am not as up on MG twin cams as I should be, are these real twin cam numbers:

Engine number 18GA-U-H 162XX.

The vehicle ID number is GHNL 927XX.

The last two numbers are digits I left off because not my car and don't know if the owner wants the information posted to the internet

Thanks, Greg

The VIN indicates a 1600 MKII not a twin cam. Twin cam chassis numbers would begin with a YN xxx . Don't know about the engine number, but it should have been a 1622cc pushrod engine.

:iagree: an early MGB engine.

Thanks Guys, just got an e-mail from a freind who know a guy selling an MGA, it was described as a twin cam, but I had my doubts, which have been confirmed, I thought the 18 prefix probably indicated a 1.8 liter or MGB motor.

Was a great price for a twin cam, not such a great price for an MGA with a B motor.....

YD3 = Twin cam roadster LHD
YM3 = Twin Cam coupe LHD
YM2 = Twin Cam coupe RHD
YD2 + Twin Cam roadster RHD

I think.

An underhood picture would be a determining factor, also. Twin-cams are unmistakable, even if someone installs the convex grill.

With that VIN number I suppose it could have also been a DeLuxe with a 1600 engine originally. That would have had the same chassis as the Twin Cam but with a pushrod engine installed. If so it would have the Dunlop solid center lock wheels, rear disc brakes and the correct front crossmember for a twin cam with the access holes. Still, if it was indeed a Twin cam the VIN number would have started with "Y" instead of the "G". A photo of the wheels would tell for sure if it's a DeLuxe or a standard MGA. Here's a photo of a Twin Cam to show you what both the engine and wheels would look like.
