On a BJ7 is the some type of seal between the drain channel and drain box or are people just using something like silicone caulking? Sorry, I think the pic is upside down....

Sorry I don't have any specific pictures of that area but maybe because of a Senior Moment I can't quite picture what you mean when you refer to the drain box. I believe I remember that a hose drains the channel into the wheel well. i've attached the only pic I have relative to that area and admittedly it doesn't show much of what you are talking about.

It's the part that's connected to the end of the drain channel with rivets where the drain hose connects.

Well now you got me wondering. So I ran out back to the shop got a couple rather poor pics. The rivets you have thru me off. i never took the drain channel and "Box" out of my car. So looking at it now i am pretty sure the two pieces are welded together. I will get the pics out of the camera but it will take me a few minutes.

These pictures aren't the best, but best I could get. I'm pretty sure the two are welded together the small lumpy line is the weld line.

If I am reading you right, the 'end box' and the drain channel are welded together, as Randy says, I have a complete new one in the garage ready to be fitted to the car some day.
