Yeah but the last two on ebay went for $100 less than that.

Might be worth noting that many 210 trannys on ebay have went for some big money not so long ago, I remember seeing one bring over $600, so $300 and change doesn't sound that bad. Ebay is a funny deal, at times thing won't bring anything hardly, then if a handful of guys are shopping, prices can escualte. A few years ago, I had snagged a 3.7 diff for a deal, was going to lock it for the race car to use at Daytona, but thats not a track I go to often. Anyway I watch two auctions with dozens of bidders on 3.7 diffs, they brought upper $300, so I fiquired what the hey, after those auctions ended I snuck my 3,7 diff into ebay auction with a $100 reserve, it brought over $400 and had 20+ bidders. So with ebay, you never know.

To elborate on this more, right now are two 210 trannys on Ebay, one rebuilt, the starting bid is 670.00, and a tested unit with starting bid of $400. personally I consider any useable Datson 210 gearbox under $350 to be a deal.

The pitfall with these gearboxes is why you can get bearings, and syncros, gears, layshafts and hard parts have long been gone, so it you end buying a busted box, it's parts box at best.

Dogleg 60 fits the tunnel with no problems.
BillM & I have done it behind my Datsun 1500 motor in my 78 Midget, no changes were needed in the tunnel.

Oh yeah, I saw a couple go for over $1000.
Not in the past year though, prices on things like this have mostly gone down - I think it's related to what people are willing to spend, plus a lot of people are having to sell stuff off to supplement their budget.
If you have something good and are willing to wait you can probably sell it, but who's going to buy an unknown used 5 speed for $650 when there are several available for less than $400?

That's the same guy who sold two boxes for less than $300. I really wonder about that dude. "Just out the transmission shop and worn things were replaced". Really?!?!?!? What was worn and how bad? What was replaced? Got an invoice? Tested, how? That $670 "rebuilt" box has been bouncing around on there forever. What happens is one or two guys think the sky is falling and bid stuff to the moon. That doesn't dictate the next item's price. I myself have been willing to pay far above what somoene else was just to have something. Luckily I haven't had to pay the piper yet.

I attend auctions for a living. When two guys gets stupid, we all shake our heads and back off. Next week the same car in better shape shows up and brings far less. We all don't freak out and think that is now "the new price".

NADA says RB cars are worth 15K. I haven't seen one go for anywhere close to that yet.

The sky isn't falling and these boxes are still out there. They are still popping up at a regualr pace, right? When you go a year w/o seeing one, then get nervious.

Rick, go give the CL guy $200. He won't get any action on CL with that.

Now, all of this being said, someone like yourself or Billm who takes the time, effort and expense to buy and supply us with the quality parts we need, do indeed deserve and warrant a higher price. I have no problem with that, the "just out the transmission shop" guy I do.

I have the dogleg tranny in my BE, it fit without problems, Rivergate toook a little while to fab up the rear mount for it, which is different from the one used by the other Datsun box. Works very nicely, I went through it and replaced all bearings and seals. Could not get synchros for it so I swapped the heavy-wearing ones (2nd, 3rd) with less used ones. And I paid less for the dogleg than I would have had to pay for the other box at the time -

Heard back from the ebay guy and he has five 210 boxes right now and plenty of stuff for them. It seems he has these regulary, and it appears the sky isn't falling.

Yes, I have the 60 dogleg.
BillM & I have plans to repair it, he thinks it might just need a new set of bearings. Hope he's right...

When I get that 5 speed in and my Datsun GX head with the twin SU HS4 carbs bolted to my Datsun A15 motor that little car is going to be SWEET!!!
Got the head and the intake manifold, just need a set of HS4's.

I have a pair of H4's on my 948 with a stock smooth case tranny. They were fitted at Donald Healey Motors where I bought my Sprite. They made a great increase in performance. I had their "high performance exhaust" fitted at the same time. I figured with more air in I needed to allow more exhaust out.

Nelson - I'm looking at your car right now on the June page of the Spridget calendar!! I didn't know you were the original owner - that's cool beans!

Will any HS4's work or has to be A15 specific?

I believe it will work with either Hitachi SU's or with the normal Brit SU's. I should take a pic of the head & manifold and post it here.
