Is British Car Forum Closing?

$25 a year is $2.09 a month. How much do we pay for a subscription to our favorite magazine? Or those junk magazine subscriptions that we read once and toss out the next day? Do those subscritions offer 10+ years of advice and archives of knowledge at a click of a mouse? Plus all the other features and services you get here? Anyone ever subscribed to Consumer Reports online or Carfax for a one or two time use? I have. Personally, I think $5 a month should be the base rate. $1 or $2 just seems demeaning, imho.

We all want to keep the "BCF" alive and well for all of us & the next generation of people to come on board.

I don`t believe this is "Rocket Science":

If "4500" members, (50% of current membership), subscribed @ $50.00 per yr. membership fee; I believe that equals $225,000.00 gross revenue:

If "6000" members subscibed @ 50.00 per yr. = $300,000.00 gross revenue:

I; For One; Would gladly pay the $50.00 annual fee:

I suspect the question is two-fold here. Will you folks pay $50.00 per yr. to keep these doors open? I believe I already know that answer! The 2nd. question is for Basil. Whats it take to keep the "BCF" up and running in terms of cash flow?

Basil; Would the above numbers make it comfortable for yourself to continue manning the helm here?

This may sound a bit harsh but when it gets down to the nitty gritty of things; There cannot be any procrastination!

Basil; Don`t procrastinate! Simply tell us what it will cost ea. member per year to keep the BCF doors open!

Lets just get it done!

I agree with Russ, but only Basil knows how much is required to keep the Forum alive. I suspect that you are very optimistic about how many people would subscribe. Of the 9,000 members I would have thought that 1,000 subscribers would be good. If Basil were to use that at a base figure he may be able to give us an idea of likely costs.

You stated what I was trying to say in another post elsewhere on this forum. Sometimes something we start to do for fun stops being fun. Basil made this place so good, and kept everything under control so well, that it became a job and was no longer a hobby. Only Basil can decide if funding will make it a worthwhile job or one that is not worth the time. I wish him well as he makes the right decision for Basil...
 
Yeah, gottcha. Kills me to think I could lose so many good connections.
Makes this car owning thing wayyy more fun.
 
We have now talked the financial obligations of running
the BCF about to death.

Very little has been mentioned about the time Basil
puts in to make this thing run. Basil seems to be running
the BCF as a "one mand band"

We have so much talent, in many venues and so many of us
have time on our hands. My goodness, how many times have
I posed a computer question, or this and that qiestion in
the pub and received quality help almosy instantly.

I'll betcha there are quite few BCFers who are willing
and qualified to assist with the task of running the show
from a remote control room.

That would certainly free Basil up for some quality family
and personal time. Then it might be "fun again" for the Boss.

There is no way this forum can go from the RED to the BLACK with the passage of new rules, so that shouldn't be the goal. THINK ABOUT IT: If only 10% or so of the current members become paying members the first year, Basil would probably be very encouraged, and would probably receive more income this year than previous donations had generated. And membership would only grow.
 
Rather than (us) speculating about how many and how much, we need to allow Basil to give us some input. I'm not sure that just throwing money at this problem is the solution. For sure that's part of it, but Basil is the only one who knows all of the other issues that need to be resolved. Perhaps he will give us an answer soon.
 
In the meantime, you might consider that there is a much older Triumph resource that, although not as flashy as BCF (no graphics or attachments allowed), remains free and will likely continue to do so even in the hard economic times ahead.

thanks for that. while it looks like a good spot it reinforces just how great bcf is. there is tons of info and knowledge here, i search it regularly and chime in from time to time if the answer doesn't require much knowledge. i hope Basil can find a solution that leaves a grin on his face, whatever that may be.
 
While there are a lot of registered users, many don't post at all. It will be tough to get these folks to chip in. I spend $60 for a Bentley or Haynes manual cause I need them, this forum is as important to me. Over the course of the summer I have given the BCF business cards to six people, all said they weren't aware of us. they were driving collectively 2 tr6's 2 mgbs 1 tr4a 1 mgtd. Perhaps there's a better way to get the forum out there, more users equal more revenue but not necessarily more work for Basil.

I'm about to start a rebuild on the GT6+, I'll pay whatever it takes. Never had a triumph before , no idea how much I'll need to learn in the next six months.

Yesterday I "Subscribed" to the autox.team. Today I have several personal emails of questions that other people proposed that I have nothing to do with. I really don`t care for the site. So; I "Un-Subscribed" this AM. Thanx for the info. anyway.
 
I would like to see this forum continue but only Basil, as has been pointed out, can determine what it would take to keep it going. A member pointed out the Triumph list, which sends all posts to a poster, and another member pointed out that after joining he received posts that he had no interest in.
The Vintage Triumph Register has a forum that doesn't require that you join VTR but is similar to BCF in that you can review the topic of concern and then read, post a reply, or not. If BCF does close, the VTR forum is a viable alternative for us.
You can visit it wt www.vtr.org, click on the forum area, register with your name and password and go from there.

Nothing against the VTR, its great. I have been a member for about 4 years.

But The BCF Just seems to be a much more freindly place to discuss our lbc's

We pay $38 a month to have a morning newspaper
to read while enjoying that first cup of coffee.

Bill, I agree. This place is a community, more like a big family. It too have been a member of the VTR for many years and I enjoy their forum and reference it both on here and on 6-pack, which is also nice to visit.

This place is just more appealing for some reason, possibly because of the cast of characters that make up the families on each of the marques.

The Triumph Forum, which is by far the most popular, is really a great group of people with a common interests and common goals to help each other as much as possible. You don't find that on the muscle or rice rocket forums. That is a tribute to the owner, Basil and his rules for civility and decorum, as well as those who frequent the forums for this and every marque available.

I guess that we can debate solutions and beat this to death back and forth, but we really need the Boss to make a plan and a decision that is best for his future and the forum will hopefully survive as we all know it today. I know that if he keeps it going, I'll be here for whatever the price is. It's just to valuable an asset to let go for the gains that you receive while being here.

If the stock market provided gains like we all get here, no one would ever have to work again.
