T-Series Is a plugged TD rocker cover vent tube OK?

I hope my question is clear:

The fitting on my rocker cover that is intended for a vent tube on my MG TD is plugged, intentionally, by a former owner or mechanic. Could this cause problems? My oil pressure is high, sometimes off the scale.

Should I return the little XPAG back to its vented state? How do TCs and TFs work? Is there somewhere in the WSM or owner's handbook that includes a schematic of how the vent tube vents?

Thanks for your patience with my simple questions!

Matt

By all means.

It should be vented and I'm surprised it's not making an oily mess somewhere.

If you have the stock oil bath air filter, there is a tube on the side that the vent connects to. If you are using pancake filters, there should be a tube on the front one to connect the vent to. If there is no tube, one can be added fairly easily.

The plugged vent will not cause high oil pressure. Some previous owner may have shimmed the pressure release spring in the oil pump to get higher oil pressure or your gage may be giving you an over enthusiastic reading - try hooking up a standard pressure gauge that will read to at least 70 psi and see what kind of a reading it gives.
Cheers,

Or, test the guage if it is mechanical with a bit of air from your compressor.

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif ...and with a -regulated- air source. At 40 PSI.

Tested mine at 20, 40, and 60. Regulated air of course.

Thanks guys. But I'm still confused.

It's supposed to be vented. I would unplug it and run the hose to the air cleaner as stock.

Does "By all means" agree with Steve, or is it in response to asking if the plugged vent tube is OK?

And do later TFs have vent tubes? Is this essentially an early PVC system? Thanks!

I am agreeing with Steve most emphaticly. Un plug it.
