interesting engine swap

Looks good under that Bonnet.
 
That is a very nice conversion! The whole site is quite interesting!
 
Man he's got some money tied up in that ride. It will be a nice machine when it is finished. I'm not sure why he chose the engine he chose but I guess it won't be that much more expensive than a tweeked out 1275 when it is said and done. He has done a great job of documenting it for future owners to see what a conversion like this actually means in time, money, and know-how.

Not only is there really good mechanical work being done there but he is an artist as well- that is beautifully done.

The man is an artist. But it is, IMHO, art for art's sake considering all the work/money he has put in for a measly 100hp.

Still, I admire that guy.
 
A 100hp represents a 200%+ increase in power over stock 46hp though, nothing to sneeze at for an extra 25ccs! AND the weight added by making the swap must be minimal! It is an elegant exercise in engineering and just looks so right, it "fits" well! Overall weight balance front to rear must be an improvement as the engine looks set back a good 6-8 inches and the battery must be in the boot too.
 
I'm doing a Suzuki swap also. Mine won't have all the rats nest wiring or the carbs. I staying with the injection. Bugeye 58 Jeff saw the work in progress when he pick up the stock engine and smooth case from my house.

Yours looks to be sitting slightly further forward than in the other post. How does the shifter line up in the interior?

I have always wanted to try a Fiat 1500-2000 if only to be able to call the car a "Fidget" /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
 
The original 948 was 43bhp. I think the various mods to MkII and then to 1098 took it somewhere in the middle, but I thought the 1275 was 60bhp (and the Mini Cooper S was 65) but my memory has faded.
 
I looked at Shealeys Bugeye when I was there, and, although engine transplants aren't my cup of tea, it's going to be a nice package when finished.
(Did you get the intake manifold rewelded yet?)

The shift handle mount is at the front of the stock opening. I used the stock crossmember in the unit body. It did require a trim in the center of the body mount but from under the car it looks untouched. After I modify the handle with a couple of sharp bends the handle should come up in the boot and look stock.

I planned the install so I can box in what's left of the underside of the battery area for the heater channeling and move the heater core back against the firewall. The car must have heat here in MN.

Hi Jeff!

I rewelded a couple of spots I didn't like. I blended the transition inside with epoxy and it's ready to use. I have the header about half done. I need to measure the drive shaft and the engine can come out for a quick freshing, touch in the valves, new valve seals, gaskets, rings, and it's ready for the reinstall.


BTW: the engine and 5 speed cost 250.00! $ 125.00 for and 80,000 miles runner and 125.00 for a 5 sp Samurai trans.

You could paint it white and call it a "Fidgetaire"!!

What gearbox are you using? If I recall that motor has the dizzy coming straight out the back at the top of the cams???
I had asked about that on a zuki site as I do not want to interfere with my heater shelf either. There is a way to make a 90 deg. on the dizzy. It has been a while and I can't remember exactly. My plan was to use a mega squirt and go distributorles using the dizzy only to run the cable drive for the tach if possible.
 
That dizzy question is addressed somewhere in the thread. As I recall there is another suzuki model with the 90* dizzy set-up that interchanges!
