INNOVATIONS

In 2002 I purchased a '70 GT6+ whose chief attraction was no rust and solid mechanicals. My intent was to keep all mods period correct, however, a few of them turned out to be a little out of "period". Nonetheless, here's a list of the most significant mods:

> installed J-type OD (no MKII GT6 had a J-type from the factory);
> total suspension rebuild with Carrera adjustable air shocks and poly bushes all around (this profoundly improved handling!!).
> completely rewired electrical system upgraded to blade-type fuses;
> engine rebuild with fast road cam; everything balanced; head ported/polished; dual row timing chain; machined sump; SS headers with free-flow exhaust, everything finely tuned to perfection.
> Redone interior with extra gauge dash.

The car remained stock otherwise. The engine work noticably improved power. Most significantly, IMHO, was the overdrive which completely transformed the car to be a pretty decent GT highway cruiser.

Great driver's car, the GT6. The growl of that smooth 2000cc six is pure heaven to the ears, especially around 4,000 ROM. It growls like a big, mean cat!

I purchased my first GT6 in 1971; the second in 1990 and the third in 2002. Will there be another????

Stay tuned . . .

I am "financially challenged". So I just cleaned it up!

(well, OK ... I did add a fuel filter)

Some great pics there guys, and it inspires me to try to improve my car when i see some of the great work that others are doing!
I'm just about at the rolling chassis stage. Its a TR250, "J" type OD and a Lucas PI system. Here are a couple of pics

I'm too tired to type it all again. Please go here: https://www.74tr6.com/

And I will post the engine rebuild, PDWA, fuel pump, gauges pictures when I get done with the last project, which will be the new dash.

Anyone out there running Mikunis or Keihins? Or anyone have any pictures from shows of cars with the Mikunis or Keihins? I considered these carbs and selected the triple ZS 175s because of installation history. Now I am reconsidering. They are marketed to be a far simpler and more HP power producing carb. I would like more info.

Well! I feel pretty low-budget in such company, but... on my (Spittie) 1500 engine (MG Midget)...

- Crane / Fireball electrical ignition w. optical pickup in dizzy
- racing coil (pending)
- Weber 32/26
- Cannon intake manifold
- 4/2/1 headers into stock exhaust (cat delete)
- fuel pressure regulator
- Carter HVLP fuel pump (pending)
- Air pump removed
- mech fan & fan clutch removed
- electric 12" fan

Head:

- decoked, valves lapped
- viton valve stem seals
- decked 0.100" to increase compression
- intake runners port-matched and smoothed

Future mods / wish list

- OD trans
- hotter cam
- AC Delco alternator conversion

OK, time for me to chime in. Basically, my TR6 is a 2008 model.
Nuff said.

You mean these??

Is this the PRI Keihin Six Pack Kit? When did you do this install? How does it perform? What is your motor composition? Have you any performance data comparing this install vs. anything else? Please tell me as much about it as you can.

I'm jealous......and thinking about next year.

You're going to fuel inject it. You know you want to.
Why spend hours tuning when you can just turn the key and drive

You don't have to tune the cycle carbs very much from what I've read.

Next year I'll do something, just not sure what it will be, but I'll have plenty of time to research the next move.

Just the updates and changes to the '59 TR3osaurus

Motor:
87mm jugs -- already on the car when I got it.
Hardened valves and seats to accommodate modern fuels.
Iskenderian "TR-23" camshaft: 260 duration, .440" lift.
Lightened tappets from BPNW
Chromoly pushrods from TSI
K & N air filters. I can't believe those stock ones really do much...
Spin-on oil filter.
Offenhauser valve cover -- looks like 10 extra horsepower!
Gear reduction starter -- was the best solution for dealing with the situation I was dealt: bolt-on ring gear and early type transmission housing. Probably a better starter, too...
GM Alternator -- WAY cheaper (and better) than rebuilding my generator with a totally shot front bearing carrier, mount kit and 3/4" pulley included.

Transmission:
Stock type, but not originally on the car -- A-type OVERDRIVE!

Suspension (the great experiment):
Stiffer springs front & rear
All urethane everything in front suspension rebuild
Nylon/stainless steering pins from Joe Alexander
Brass/nylon rear spring bushing kit from Joe Alexander
1-1/8" aluminum lowering blocks between rear springs and axle
Addco sway bar, front
I've got the rear too, but I am going to wait and see before trying it.

Modern conveniences:
I am going to install an electric windscreen washer pump and a button to operate it.
I am going to install a TR4 heater valve and the cable to operate it from the cockpit.
Nice bright halogen light bulbs EVERYWHERE.

Lots of interesting stuff. Can I ask some questions about the air box:

Did the factory ever try this.
Where is the air filter positioned.
Is there a screen to keep out bugs.
Might the air box turn into an oven and negate its purpose.
Is it worthwhile insulating it.
Does it provide a ram effect.
What about cold weather starting and running.

I suppose I could answer all these if I built one myself. Ha! But I wanted to find out a bit more.

I had a 750 Bonneville when I was a lad and I could swear it ran much better in the cold weather so I am very interested in what folks have to say about air boxes. How come we never see such things in production cars?

Cheers

Dunno
Where is the air filter positioned.
In front of the radiator, connected to a large air
tube to the box.
Is there a screen to keep out bugs.
No, but the shield surrounding the air filter is turned
to the back, toward the radiator.
Might the air box turn into an oven and negate its purpose.
Not with all that air moving through it, unless you idled
for hours.
Is it worthwhile insulating it.
Prolly not.
Does it provide a ram effect.
Not really, more cold air induction.
What about cold weather starting and running.
No difference.

I suppose I could answer all these if I built one myself. Ha! But I wanted to find out a bit more.

Al sorry it took so long to answer. I have been kind of pecking at the post and only looking at the ones that really peeked my interest.
That is not my car. It is what you said. It was at the Bellevue WA show in 07.
I think it is beautiful. Almost Italian looking.
