Re: Moss Parts

Mark:

What you describe is not a 'rip-off'!!!

That one time you got AE's was a lucky shot! That you got a different product a year later just depends on which vendor they're using at the time - unless they specifically state "AE"! And there are places in their catalogs where they specifiy a manufacturer for certain products.

I also think you should change the title of this thread & probably read the rules:

"6. No vendor bashing! If you have a problem with a vendor (whether supporting or otherwise), take it up with the vendor. Don't use this forum for registering complaints about any vendor or business. However, we do have a Vendor Review forum where you can post a review and rate vendors. All posts in that forum are fully moderated. Please read the rules posted in that forum before posting there."

...& you and I are friends but I just get upset when someone slams a vendor who works hard to keep our cars alive, be it Moss or someone else.

Re: Moss Parts

Tony,
sorry, i changed the post.

However this is just the kind of thing that is very upsetting to me. This basically means that anything you order is a crap shoot. I ordered these because i thought i knew what i was going to get. I orderd the first set last july, this set was orderd a week ago (not even a year) When it turns out that i am shipped an inferior product, than what i expect- i am not happy. I feel like i have been the victim of a bait and switch.

it just aint right

Re: Moss Parts

If you call them, they will tell you what is in the bin before selling it to you. They are not hiding anything.

Re: Moss Parts

I try to tell everybody what they're getting from me....if some one asks for a specific product, I check before placing an order.

Like today...I want to change out the cam, push rods & tappets on my '79 MGB - 220,000 original miles - before summer....I have a rebuilt head on the shelf.....so, I call my guy at Moss and ask him about each....he tells me the 2 choices for tappets, who they're using for cams (Crane right now but they're talking with David Anton since Crane is out of business), and my choices for push rods....we discussed pricing of each, how their stock items compare to the named items....then, I made my choice.

Anybody who calls their direct line should be able to ask the same questions & get the same answers......you just can't assume anything....I mean, things happen = like with Crane right now - that Moss has to react to.

I don't now that I'd call it "inconsistent" parts numbers: the numbers stay the same, just the manufacturer changes - & Moss trys to ensure the quality is the same through those changes.

Today we talked about Moss' in-house tappets, how they're hardened, how Moss ensures they're the same as similar market items, etc.

I've found most issues with Moss and the other suppliers are basically communications issues.

& remember, unless its a specified product, most of all the other suppliers go to Moss or to Moss' vendors for their product.

Re: Moss Parts

Hastings is not some weird brand. They are an American manufacturer of piston rings and have
been around since 1915. Still made in the USA.

Re: Moss Parts

OK, I'd say we've had some useful discussion here.

It is a good reminder that we shouldn't assume any particular brand will be provided unless one is listed in the catalog. If in doubt, call ahead.

And I for one understand the frustration of getting less-than-correct parts (although I've had mostly good luck with Moss)

But in keeping with the clearly-stated rules here at BCF, I'm locking the thread and suggesting that problems with vendors be handled directly with them.

There is a forum (Vendor and Product Reviews) for discussion, and there are ~RULES~ posted.

As always, you can compare notes about vendors amongst yourselves via the PM system here.....that's no problem.

Thanks,

Nial
