Ashland, Oregon, known to locals as the center of the universe, is a quaint little artsy town in southern Oregon home to Southern Oregon University (my sons alma mater, of course he is an environmentalist), The Oregon Shakespeare Festival and a large number of wealthy old hippies. This is the epicenter of the <span style="text-decoration: underline">spotted owl</span> debate and the cutting down of old-growth redwoods, home to the spotted owl. The meanest bumper sticker I have ever seen was tacked to the rear of a logging truck loaded with redwoods and lumbering (pun intended) through downtown Ashland. It read: SPOTTED OWL MOTOR HOME
