I'm bored...

Somebody post a question so I can give you bad, inauthoritative advice.

what's involved in raising the steering rack? (my car is lowered)

How hard is it to replace the rubber seal on the piston of a ZS carb? (mine leaks)

Do all spridgets without wire wheels have the same axle shafts? what's the spline?

Where can I get a good tutorial on a tranny rebuild on a 1500? (second gear synchros are worn in mine)

what's the maximum tire width the lower wishbones can support on the front suspension? I've heard they crack, but I'd really like to trim the rear and sneak some 205s on there...

My gas gauge doesn't work, where are the grounds for it? it used to be intermittent and now it doesn't work at all.

What's a good timing setting for a 1500 when you want mid-band power?

Who makes a cheap, very low bottom seat that'll fit in the midget?

That should keep you busy and educate me a little /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

And if you get time after all these questions, maybe you could tell me the way to San Jose? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif
Oh! you meant car questions. How can I refill the carbon cannister??

Stuart.

Can you fit a chevy small block into a midget 1500? Who sells a green soft top? Why can't I get my subwoofer, amp, and 12 disc cd changer to work in my 1500? How's that for starters /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Raise the rack the same amount that the car is lowered. As you are handy with a welder, I would make custom mounts were I you.

Really hard for me. I replaced my carb with a custom EFI system.

No idea.

I just did mine and used the Haynes manual. It's a lot easier than you think.

No idea. I have the thinnest cheapest tires I could find on my car. It's a grocery getter.

Haven't done this on a Midget, but on other cars I have dropped the tank, pulled the float, and cleaned the contacts on the float. They get pretty gummed up over the years.

Way over my head.

Mazda... by way of a Miata in your local junk yard.

Remove the canister. The bottom screws off. Buy filter charcoal from a pet store with a good fish department. (comes in a carton) Wash the charcoal then dry it on a cookie sheet in the oven. Use a cut coffee filters to replace the old paper filters. Refill with clean, dryed charcoal. Easy.

[/ QUOTE ]

You can do anything with time and money, my son. The question you should ask is "why would anyone want to fit a Chevy small block in a Midget?"

[ QUOTE ]

Buy a canvas top and paint it with cloth or vinyl spray paint.

If you still have the stock alternator, it is way under powered for this. Buy an alternator for 78 Camero 305 and install it as described on this website https://teglerizer.com/alternator/index.html

Morris, your blood's worth bottling!! I assume you are no longer bored?

Hey, that's where I learned how to refill my canister! I was going to post a link, but I couldn't find it. It used to be at shadetreemg.com I think.

If anybody bloods worth bottling it's Tony's!

BTW, that's a compliment, right? I hope so...

Yep, it was on shadetreemg.com....but chuck's closed that down & we're transferring all the data to my site.

& I took it in a nice way, Morris....hehehehehe

Rob, mine did the same thing until it finally gave up the ghost completely. Two problems: The voltage stabilizer quit, so I built a solid state 10 volt regulator for it. ($5 in Radio Shack parts, let me know if you're interested) That made it work a little longer, but never read quite right and finally died. That involved dropping the gas tank. The spade lug that comes from the gauge had corroded, and as near as I could tell the tank never had a really good ground. So, I cleaned up the spade lug, and coated it with dielectric grease. Then I soldered a wire directly onto the body of the sender (big soldering gun), and ran a wire from the grounding point under the trunk latch. Problems fixed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

Hey, lots of good info on this thread!

I am definitely interested in your solid state stabilizer plans. That's one for the knowledge base!

Ah, that's Wray Lemke...lemme know if you want his contact info - actually, I think it might be at the bottom of his tip.

Stuart, as you are married to a cajun, I assume you will de starting in South Louisianna. Take I-10 all the way to Los Angeles. In L.A. catch highway 1 (aka the PCH) North. Exit 17 North and you're there.

It's a beautiful drive.

Yes it is,and I agree.Tony deserves it too! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif

Hmm, hadn't thought of that, but I'll see if I can get it into a form for the knowledge base. I know the circuit off the top of my head, but I'll see if I can put together something with some pictures of how it's built. If you're handy with a soldering iron it's not hard to build, and it's worked fine for me.

Morris, you'll burn in Hades if you don't put that in the KB!!!

...just tryin' to keep you safe. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
