Now Don.....you know that I TRIED going down that road last year about the time of the paint job. The last words that I remember hearing around here were "you got your engine and wheels and paint, I'm getting OUR kitchen".

That kind of ended the Wedge discussions.

For now.............

My brother is 6'11 1/2 and drives a TR3. He moved the seat back some how and has lots of leg room. I can ask him what he did.

Does the TR6 have less room than the Spitfire? I'm 5'9 180lbs and I have no problems at all. In fact... I feel more comfortable in my Spit than I do in my SUV.

Certainly putting the seat well back is a must. One can almost simulate the traditional Eye-talian driving position with the outstrecthed arms.

For long drives (say 500+ miles) I wear special shoes -- look like driving shoes but actually made for wrestlers. Very comfortable and let me get my left foot below and behind the pedals so I can stretch a bit.

Could be worse... you could be driving a Lotus. Nothing against Lotus (great cars) but they were designed to fit one guy and he wasn't real big. I tried the passenger side of a friend's Super 7 and thought we would need an engine hoist and a quart of Mazola to get me out. No way to even think about the driver's side.

Geo,

Good point about the shoes. I have a size 12 foot. If I wear boat shoes have more room than if I wear my big old cross trainers.
I've been thinking about a pair of driving shoes. The round heel looks like it would be more comfortable.
I'm just a little concerned that people might think I'm an excentric.

Peter,
Your brother probably installed 1" C-channel that raised his seat
about 1" and gave him about 2.5" to 3" more slideback space with
the original TRF seat hardware. Or something very similar.

Dryfit it looks something like this. I'm 5'-9" @ 155# and
I have plenty of leg room with this modification. I can now
see over the steering wheel without neck cramps.

I don't mean to step on anyone's toes by posting this ......
but this modification DOES work and makes driving my 1969 TR6
much more comfortable.

Well I was 6'5" in my youth before I started to shrink but never felt cramped in either my TR4A or my wife's Spitfire. Of course I was a lot younger back when they were our only cars and we were driving them everyday.

I pushed the clutch over slightly to give enough room for my foot to fit between the sidewall and the clutch (using a couple of 2 x 4's). Doesn't feel so cramped if you can easily stretch out your left foot.

TR6 and Spitfire are about the same, but the factory steering wheel in the 6 was into my thighs too much. I put a 14" in and it made the difference for me.

At nearly 6'6" I chose a TR3 as my sports car because of the leg room. I had a thinner seat bottom cushion made to put me a little less tall in the saddle and the overall fit is pretty good. I especially like the elbow room!

The way new car designs are going I may be walking.

I always liked the low slung cars, especially when the girls came over and bent down to talk to you.
