If you have to move a car but have no tow vehicle

I unnerstan' the theory.
The trouble is the practical part isn't going too well.

I have 200' of bush lined driveway off a busy road. Little room for error. From a truck you can't see the corners so well, so even starting the turn is 'tricky'. Plus I freely admit to being a total incompetant at backing up a trailer.

After 3 disasters I gave up and turned on the flashers...

"Discretion is the better part of valor" my friend. If ya gotta 'practice', do it with a lot of room and an empty trailer.

Sounds all too famillair! I am fair at backin my 15 Ft. A.T.V
behind the Pickup truck pretty much anywhere I want it. However same trailer behind the 33 Ft. Motorhome, now that is a whole different ballgame! My solution? I put a ball on one of the A.T.V.`s and now I unhook the trailer from the M.H. in a nice flat unoccupied space, unload the ATV with the ball, hook it to the trailer and use it to manuver the trailer to a likely parking space /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif
P.S. Just backing the M.H. without a trailer there is constant fear of something expensive that doesn`t belong to me going CRUNCH!

Alan, In the future, check with the NY DMV, they offer a transport tag for moving a vehicle from one location to another for about $20. The vehicle has to have insurance.

We obtained one to move a vehicle from upstate to Indiana.

Sorry, I have mis-informed you, you can transport from NY to another State, but not from another State to NY, figures... NY DMV Maybe other States have similar statutes?

A "transport tag"??? Geez, the paperwork that shows you just bought it is good enough to get it home from anywhere on any highway that I know of!

No way was I driving my fresh from the garage TR6 200 miles home (especially since there was 2" of snow where it was).

It is already licensed and insured - that wasn't the issue. Trusting it to make it that far was my problem. (I've had some ~issues~ with the car in the past)...

There is just no easy way to say it...New York sucks when it comes to the legislative overburden. My ancestors settled part of upstate New York, so I feel really attached, but I hate what the last 50 years of politics has done to the place.

My In-laws retired to Alabama about 13 years ago and never looked back. It's sad.

Alana, im an expert at moving things on trailers, Ive owned boats all my life and have a natural nack for being able to do things backwards, i should have filmed how i rebuilt my transmission. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Alana - remember this: when backing a trailer, put your hands on the bottom of the steering wheel, not the top...then, turn the steering wheel the direction you want the rear of the trailer to go.

Tony, That's the easy one. Try a double axle wagon style trailer with front wheel steering.
if my idea of a "double axle wagon style trailer with front wheel steering" is correct then it should handle just like a car backing up no????? , my fav. was backing up big jet planes into hanger with a bunch of other planes packed in like sardines, you sit in the tug facing the plane, goddah watch em wing tips/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif
