That is just an amazing story. The way he guided the plane back for a relatively smooth landing on the river when he realized Teterboro wouldn't work. Not one human loss.

I will always admire pilots. Always. Forever. Sempiternam!

Highly experienced pilot, Sully. He certainly earned his pay on that day!

A real hero.
 
I think we should have a parade for this brave gentleman.

That is truly remarkable that everyone made it off safely. A few years ago a 767 had to make a water landing after it ran out of fuel in a hijacking, and it didn't fare so well, so that's amazing he landed it intact. Captain Sully is truly a hero, as are the heroes who helped everyone out of the plane and back to shore.
 
The pilot did a great job; balanced airspeed and glide-rate vs. descent perfectly while scoping out the safest landing zone.
I note that Sully has glider training.....I bet that helped.

Many of you may recall the Air Canada ~Gimli Glider~ some years back.

Some of the these pilots are as cool as a cumcumber. :thumbsup:
 
It always irks me that this landing is called "a miracle". It takes away from the pilot's knowledge, skill, experience, and training.
 
not taking anything away from the fact that everyone made it out ok, but i have to agree with Twosheds. a pilot like this gentleman (and his F/O) were obviously well trained and experienced. what they did was not a miracle, but they exercised good judgement and went for the best option when they really did not have many. let's give the cabin crew some credit as well for expediting a safe evacuation.
i'll bet there are lots of flight simulators being programmed with laguardia's weather conditions, a/c type, wieghts etc this morning!

I heard on the radio this morning that the cause is being questioned - did the plane REALLY hit a flock of birds... The way it was said on air made it sound like they were questioning if the pilot and aircrew were telling the truth.

I love a happy ending! Let's not let those who prefer otherwise to interfere with our joy that this one went right! I know which airline I would pick if this is any representation of the quality of their pilots!

Read somewhere that it was actually women and children first, then the men, and finally, the pilot. Actually gives you a little faith in humanity...

I heard it was a Flock of Seagulls. I wondered what happened to that group!
 
Getting sucked into an engine gotta be better than playing at a bar in Lancaster CA. I saw a billboard for that a couple years back.
 
Glider pilot, USAF Academy, private company making sure there's SAFE air travel...

Say what ye may. The guy is a mench. Him and his ilk will see us thru whatever moronic preconceived opinions of "flight safety" we hold as a general populace.


Heck, gettin' outta bed in th' mornin' is a life threatening process. Expecting to BUY a safe passage on an aircraft from "A to B" and arrive intact is just about as silly as expecting to arrive in th' "New World" was back in the 16th century.

I think he needs a <span style="text-decoration: underline">cabinet post</span>. Restores your faith in our airlines. There are good guys out there.....

Mayor Bloomberg was talking about a ticker tape parade for this terrific pilot. He's already been given the keys to the city. He certainly deserves all the adulations we can give him, along with the crew and the rescue teams that responded so quickly.
