I don't usually do double posts - I posted this on the "other" forum also - 'cause it seems a little weird to me. But I'm a bit down right now.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I've had my B in the shop for over 3 weeks now, trying to get a new windshield installed.

LOOOONNNNNGGGGG story, but the initial problem turns out to be the "restoration" the DPO did to the car before I got it. Seems the entire windscreen frame was held in place by one (1!) non-stock bolt. Not only non-stock, but too long. It actually went through the cladding and sat against the glass. This was the cause of the initial break.

Second problem: Finding a local supplier for the glass. The shop tried 3 different screens, including - according to the mechanic - one of the PPG screens. None fit, although the PPG was "close".

The solution: The shop has finally relented and is allowing me (read: Tony The Autoist Barnhill /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif ) to provide glass that fits.

It's going to be in the high 70's with clear skies this weekend. It's going to be low 60's and raining next weekend. Sigh.

I can feel your pain. The shop has had my car longer than I have. And now it's without its middle freeze plug....well I must say i am at least a bit encouraged that the engine may not be toast...the winter could start here in No Ca at any moment. I hope for both of us it holds for a little while.
Paul

That stinks. If it get's to cold during the winter for you, you can always ship the car to Florida. There are a handful of us that will keep her warm for ya!

Hope you are back on the road before you know it!

Rob

Check yer PM's ROB!!!

Heh, Docs got a quick and dirty.

I found out I can get it closed-trailer shipped to the East Coast for under $1600 when I get transferred back next summer. But it'll be going home to VA, not FL. Although the wife wouldn't mind: She's from Tallahasee. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I oughta have it back by then, too.

'Course, I should ship the Saturn and drive the B. ...Bit of a problem pulling a trailer full of my junk, but I can always give everything away. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Grin.... Right now the boat is on the Potomac River at the Washington Sailing Marina. I plan on moving it over to Chesapeake Beach or some such after getting back next year. I love to sail, but even the Potomac is pretty narrow - and shallow. Thank heaven it's a swing keel. It'd still be in the last mud flat I snagged otherwise.

R.

That's precious!!!

Get Ye to the Newport News area!!! A shallow-draft keel is a wonderful thing.

It *appears* to be about a 26' waterline. Intercoastal in comfort!

fixed keel boats are what we aspire to. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

It's a Catalina 25 tall rig. Intercoastal is fun, and this is a good type for it.

I want to move up in stages, my wife wants to go straight to the Wauquiez 48' Saloon. How bad is that? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif Shoot, all's I'd need is a lift and I could store the B on deck!

Actually, the boat is the reason I've got so many irons in the fire on the B (upgraded electrics, Prestige interior, Mr. Mike leather on Fiero seats, Rivergate 5-speed...). Once I'm back I'll have 2 years of neglect to take care of. There's no way I'll have the budget for both. My civilian job pays okay, but not that okay. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif

An MGB on davits MAY not be the best idea... Two-wheel Hondas would be better!

Under "ordinary" circumstances I'd side with ya.... but you've expressed a desire for (to) caution... Just keep in mind: You've got a finite amount of time "on-planet" and it just keeps gettin' SHORTER... will it matter how LONG the waterline is if ya run it aground?!?! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

That said: It WILL matter how LOA affects an open-water journey.

GAWD... I'm agreein' wif th' *gurl*!

SOMEBODY SHOOT ME!!!!!

Doc/Rick,

Speaking of sailboats, any interest in a Pearson P28 (1987)? She's currently moored at Solomons Island/Patuxent River Inlet:

Oh, Gawd, don't tempt me. Solomons is a perfect location, and the Pearsons are nice boats. Stop! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

Too "short" fer me... a "day sailor"

..Not tryin' to be a "pooper". Just would be looking for something with a more "open water" length. Minimum 38'...

And I'm "pipe-drreamin'" even then... Herself is adamant that she ain't happy with the idea of live-aboard.

Apparently I'm landlocked...

"Son of a Son of a Sailor".

....but I'm pragmatic.
