I Vote for Membership Fee

[ QUOTE ]
If this TR6 site was kept to aroung a 95% technical forum I would be willing to pay a fee, but with all the chat room type banter----I would not want to pay for that!!--but dont get me wrong this is a great site and thanks for the huge amount of work basil.

I actually thought about spltting things up to separate the banter from the tech stuff and the overwhelming opinion at the time from members was that it was better to keep it this way. Thr truth is, if this forum was strictly a technical information storehouse, it would not be nearly as much fun and it would also not be nearly as active. But I do have "The Pub" and other off-topic forums which I encourage people to take off-topic discussions, but that is not to say that every post or reply must be purely technical.
For purely technical info, I also encourage people to look at the Knowledge Base and contribute to same when they can. Hopefully it will eventually gtow into a decent repository of technical info.

I think that if site were all technical it would die a slow death. One of the best parts of being here is the contact with the people, not just hearing about how to rebuild or replace something. That's what dry, dull boring manuals are for.

This forum is all about the great folks that make it alive and a good place to spend time learning and making cyber friends.

This is the friendliest and most professionally conducted forum that I've ever been on. There is absolutely no flaming done or no flaming idiots here for that matter.

Hmmmm, maybe I'm on to something here.

Thats a matter of opinion and personal needs, for me its about the technical and the Pub is for the banter, but then again-its just an opinion.

I'm with Paul. I think it's kind of like the hardware store in a small town. If you just want a part for your toilet, you go to the big box store and you're in and out in ten minutes, assuming they have it. If it's not on the shelf, you're out of luck.

However, if you want a part and you want to have a local who's just hanging out there to tell you how he had the same problem and what he did to fix it, while the salesman is looking in the back and finding the part that they haven't made for about ten years, you go to the small town store. Many times, someone will have a suggestion that involves you not even buying what you came for but fixing it even better than you thought you could with something you already have.

Kinda like here. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

My point exactly. Well put Andy.

And Allan has a point also. I just don't think that the majority of those here take things that seriously until someone has a major problem, then all of the banter goes away until the issues are resolved. Everyone pitches in to help fix the problem and then it's back to normal.

I originally found this forum because of the VTR. But it was much more relaxed and more people tune in daily to get and give support. That's what I really like about it.

But again, that's just my opinion.

I found this site because I made a comment on VTR indicating my dissapointment in the participation there. One of the members here rescued me.

I entirely agree about the benifits and that this is a truley unique forum. There are friendships and help for everyone from novice to expert. Any changes must be made with great care.
