I think I just scored a free Bugeye!

Wow! I won't know if it's a Bugeye until I get some pictures sent later tonight, but a friend of a friend has an old Sprite he wants gone. Evidently he bought it years ago and was trying to restore it (new floors, pulled engine, etc), but it was slow going and he got married at some point and the new wife wants the car gone.

He called it a Bugeye, but also thought it was a '66, so I am hoping it's a Bugeye, but planning on a square body......maybe it's a square body with a Bugeye bonnet? Who knows and who cares.....it's FREE!!!!!!

I'll post the pics as soon as I get them.

Which means your total outlay for the restoration will only be extortionate and not obscene.

Seriously, though, good score!

Thanks Drew!

If it's a Bugeye then I'll fix her up basically stock. If it's a square body then I might just go nuts with a bigger engine, etc. I'm hoping there isn't much body work left to do so I can just paint it and go.....we'll see.

I agree the two lines I hear most often from my Orlando club

1. he got it for free and boy did he get ripped off., and

2. he got it for free and we all know know we get what we pay for.

OK....it's a '66 Sprite and it looks to be in reasonable shape. I will probably just do what I can to get it running and not mess with much else (not going to do a full blown restoration).

Here are some pics.....they're not very good, but you can see some of it.

Ummmm... I did not realize that no car is as sexy as a Fiero. This forces me to rethink my whole world view.

The only thing sexier than a Fiero is a Fiero
with one of those Ferrari body kits.
Kind of like a boob job for a car. :jester:
Plastic surgery...auto style!

Hmmm.....I used to be able to cut & paste pics from my Fiero group. I'll see about getting new ones up soon.

BTW.....I've owned more than 50 Fieros over the past 20 years. They are fun cars that you can do just about anything with. I had a custom convertible Fiero GT with a Caddilac Northstar V8 that was pretty fun. I sold it 3 years ago to try and save my fledgling restaurant. I ulitmately lost everything except for the Bugeye.

Now you know!

OK I retract the Fiero dissing - I actually do like some of the body kits - glad you saved the bugeye though. My impression is that the restaurant business is a tough gig.

I think if you save the image to your desktop then upload it you'll be good to go

Fieros are great... I am NOT a big fan of GM... but the Fiero is the closest thing to a sports car the company every produced... and easily the best thing they produced in the 80's.
