I hate buying cars

Don,

Sorry - but I feel that kids should have to pay at least 1/2 of a car.
That way, they'll take MUCH better care of it,as they know that they,- NOT-
Mommy & Daddy, will have to pay to replace it.

One of the joys of being a parent is to help your kids. Sometimes I feel I should do more.
It's a good feeling.... Try it.

"Your dad was 18-20 in the late 60's early 70's???"

Yup, I'm only thirty-five.

I always thought Walter was in our age group

Yesterday ended up in Easley, SC getting a car

Well you found one about as far as you could go from Mt. Pleasant & still pay SC sales tax, title & license.
BTW: what did your son get?

I see on Walter's profile that he's an old international truck guy.
my Dad had a 70' Scout 4x4 diesel, that he babied along until about 2000 when he could drive no more.

I knew I liked Walter.

"I always thought Walter was in our age group"
Nope, I have always just gotten along better with folks that are a wee bit older than myself.

I happen to be a third generation binder guy. My grandad was the shop foreman for the IH dealer in Lawton after he got out of the Navy in 53 or 54. My dad practically grew up in that shop and while he was a GM mechanic he never did lose his love of binders.

2014 Ford Focus with 24K

24k miles; hardly broken in.

is it the s-hatchback model?
(I was looking for one for my daughter, nice looking & very good ratings)
hope you got it at your price point!

I'm older than Walter? FOR REAL????????!!!!

The lesson is this: Don't judge a man by what he posts on the forum, you don't have enough information.

Don,

You bought him a new car - I wouldn't spend that much for a car like that
for us.
Sounds like he only needed reliable transportation - you should have found
him a nice '90's Corolla/Camry.You would have spent less than $4000 for one.

FOR REAL????????!!!!

Hey Steve,

I just read your profile.
You're a violin maker?

Do you have any pics showing how you make one?
(perhaps starting a new thread)

Thx & best regards,

Guy

Doug, it's not new...actually over 2 years old.
I wanted a safe car as he will drive 125 miles back and forth to school on US 26 and Guy will tell you, not the safest road.
I don't want to throw a bunch of money at a car after I buy it.
And I have no problem with the fact your car spending habits are different.
Don't think you'd spend 40 K on a Bemmer either

Guy, It's a sedan. Got it for what I wanted to pay. It's a great car except the trans is a very weak spot. I knew that going in and it's at the shop for warranty work and they have extended that to 100K.
I actually booked the appt before we bought it

We all do different stuff, we all have different budgets.
I just learned my "nice" brother in law kept from me for 10 years that he has a Boxster. Guess he didn't want to rub it in my face. What he will never understand is that I would rather own, maintain and drive my beat up old TR than his car.

I'm with you there.

I love to look at the high end cars, but they will never fit my budget.

(kind of like that swimming pool my wife wants..........I like it better at my neighbors house)

Hate to break the news to your brother in law but if the Booster is 10-15 years old it is probably worth less than a nice TR, and still probably hasn't hit the bottom of the depreciation curve. Don't get me wrong, I sure wouldn't mind having one, but don't know if I would call an older Booster high end these days.
