I bought a red one

If I show up on your front doorstep, would you give me a ride around the block? I don't want to drive, my luck would be the large white sedan with the driver that has to reach up to the steering wheel would decide to go to church that day.

dadgummit, I need that jealous smiley again.

shoot, I'd be satisfied to just hear it run.

PS, do Ferrari's come in any other color than "arrest me" red?

If you show up at my door I would gladly take you for a ride....and teach you how to use the F1 paddle shifter so you can take it on a run of your own. It;s just a car....as my grandpa said (and in a country song) "some thing just glitter & shine". Don't get too impressed it just a car.

Arrest Me Red! I love it...and I'll be stealing that as the original color of the car from now on.

I thought I had heard that the 355 was one you didn't have to remove the engine to service it. But I know almost ziltch about Ferraris.

Alas...it has to come out. In fact it was removed form the car yesterday. new cam belts & valve guides are going in. Oct 29th will be a big day for me.

No Lucas, instead you get Marelli, you may miss Lucas.

I read that the service recc's on Ferrari's are based on a 5,000 mile annual usage. So it's what, about every 20,000 miles right? That level of performance does come at a price. It's still got to be fun if you can afford it though right.

Oh no!!! Really? what could possibly be worse than Lucas? :frown:

Mileage is really not the issue...within reason. The issue is the life of the cam belts. From what I have gathered, it is actually harder on them if the car sits. They pre-form and get a bump in them...kinda like tires when they sit all winter. The 4 - 5 years life is based more on time than mileage from what i have read and learned so far. Of course if you pile on 20k a year, that changes things.

You might want to check out Ferrari Chat. I'm a member of that forum because I like vintage Ferraris, and hang out in that section most of the time.

The guys over there are down to earth and very helpful...the same as you see here on BCF.

Thanks for the suggestion...it is a good one. I joined FChat last month. In fact I think I read every post they had in the 348/355 section. It is what allowed me to follow though on the purchase.

I'm blowing by you Black ...
and My husband bought it for me Yellow

Satch Carlson in the back of Hemmings magazine, Marelli Magneti is Italian for "Lucas".

License plate,

um...

bye

WHAHOO

Is that a 182 or a 206 in your avatar?

yeah, have my private and my A&P. Haven't been current in a long time though :frown:. from the angle of your avatar it looked like the top of a Cessna.

edit: now that I look closer there's no wing showing through the window, which means it's a low wing. duh.

learned in Cherokee's, Grumman Tigers, and Beech Sundowners.

Not nitpickin or anything like that; Just Curious.

Is it spelled "Spider or Spyder"?

Ideas??????

"BELISIMA"; If they allow that many letters??

Russ

PS: I just saw a nice pic of a "BLK" one & learned something! "Spider" It is!

awright, I'll bite.

BELISIMA??

How about a license plate frame that says

"My other car is a Triumph"? :jester:

Geez Russ, 3:55 AM??

Howdy Steve,

"BELISIMA" (Phonetically written)in "Italian" means "BEAUTIFUL" or something close to that (I`m not Italian).

My "AM" hrs are due to the "BOOB TUBE". I`ll be watching something, say around 9:00pm & next thing I know; Its 3:30am (Like Now). If I get 5-6hrs. of sleep; I`m good to go!

So; Yesterday I crashed around 9:00pm watching the "Golf Channel" (Nothing good on Speed)& Here it is 3:30am; All dressed up & nowhere to go except here.

Enjoy Your Day,

Russ

*sigh* I don't have it yet! :frown:

Part of the reason I bought it was it FAILED the pre-purchase inspection. Yea, it failed it and it worked out OK.

It had a leaky valve guide on the #3 cylinder. One of the weak points of the car is the bronze alloy valve guides the factory used. It is an expensive replacement.

The seller agreed to lower the price of the car to allow me to get all (40 of them) valve guides replaced with a proper iron alloy version. It is at a Ferrari repair station in Cincinnati with the engine out and the heads off as we speak.

The result will be a car with a zero time major engine maintenance complete along with replaced valve guides, new exhaust valves, new exhaust and proper F1 pump actuator repair. Essentially all the expensive repairs are done (roughly $31,000+ worth of work).

The surprising thing is I drove the car and you would never know it had a valve guide issue....the leakdown test showed a problem...and why you do a PPI on these cars.

I will be picking up the car on October 28th or 29th. Long two weeks for me.

No different than say a Toyota or any other engine with belt driven cams and and interference design. 5 years or 60K (or 80K) miles and the belts need replacing before you wreak the engine. Of course not all cars require taking the engine out to replace the belts.

Wow! Beautiful car! Good luck with it! Of course you could have probably bought two concourse TR3s for the price of the Ferrari!

BTW, I've heard people criticize the TR7 & 8s as unattractive cars (no one in particular on this site but just in general). They've never seen your pics of your TR8. It's looks great from all angles.

I found the details and it is 30,000 miles on belt changes. You are correct in that the engine must come out on this one. My Dad's Miata requires similar service, but it is far less involved.

Well, thank you very much. I have worked pretty hard to keep it accurate & correct and will continue to do so.

I was quite serious about a TR3. The unfortunate part was the past two years of Triumph shows. The local club cliques and participant choice awards made it impossible to have a decent showing. Although my car scored 3rd place in concourse at Nationals one year, the car never even placed at any of the local shows. The local clubs voted for their members cars and they all won each time. The car quality and details had little do with it. I don't have time nor live close enough to these groups to become a prominent member of the group despite my dues

The ride home from the Chicago show with my daughter freed me up a little. We talked about trying something different with the cars and maybe another Triumph wasn't the right move.

At the time I was close to buying a TR3 that took first place at this years TRA. It had a $40,000 asking price. Why buy that, get it to a local show and lose to a bunch of cars because the owner is more club connected? Silly I say....so away we went to look for something else.

The result? A Ferrari and a new challenge.

The TR8 is still here and we will continue to drive it to the shows....

The pleasure of a cheap car show award is very short lived. The pleasure of ownership of a car you enjoy to drive is where the fun begins. Let us know on the 30th how fun the car is.

well, keeping the TR8 means that you can legally continue to hang around here!
