HS 2 carbs

OK, I am still in the market for HS2's there is a pair on ebay

that the seller says are tags AUD431's. Came from a Spitfire 1300.

Are these ok for my 1970 1275. The burlen site says they are for a 1971.

Thanks

Woodie, HS2's are pretty much the same across the board, with the exceptions of the needles used. I'll check when I get home from work, but it wouldn't surprise me if the needles are the same between the 1275 and 1300 Spit. Close enough to start tuning, for sure.
Jeff

Um, Spitfires have a horizontal manifold so that the float bowls are perpendicular to the intake. Spridgets are at 30 degrees(?) You'll need to change the bowl mounting bushing. Also, Spitties had a slightly different jet, and the needles are not the same. If I were you, wait for the more correct ones to come around. But for the 1500 Midget guys, these and a manifold would be very cool.

WOODIE.......

The correct carbs for the 1970 1275 are AUD404 F and R. (front and rear).

These have spring loaded needles.

I have a set of complete AUD136 F & R that are a little dirty but it seems that it's a ready to go set. Complete with manifold , spacers linkage and heat deflector plate.

These carbs are the same at the 404's but with fixed needles and the front one has a ported vacuum take off point for your vacuum advance on the dist. The manifold has an undrilled boss in case you need a manifold vacuum port for a pcv valve or vacuum, which can be easily drilled and tapped. I need $95 for the whole deal plus US mail cost to you from Calif. E-mail me at oneandoutgo(at)msn(dot)com
if you want them.....Jerry

Peter, I know there are a few minor differences in the HS2's between the Spit and the Sprite, but they're easy to adapt. Thae main difference is the float chamber grommet to obtain the proper float geometry.
As to using them on a 1500, I always thought they were a tad small, but would probably be OK for a street engine. If I was going to hot up a 1500 in the least, the dual HS4's would be the way to go.
Looking at Jerrys' post, there is a good deal, Woodie. Jump on it. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif

My thoughts exactly. Jerry don't need 'em, Woodie does. Hunnert bucks is cheap, they'll fit with NO issues.

Jeff,
OK, maybe "very cool" is overstating it a bit ;-)

I was responding to Woodie that they aren't a direct bolt-on.

Woodie, buy Jerry's.

If you are still looking for HS2's I have a pair from an old MG1100 (basically the same as a '64-'66 Spridget) I will send you for $50.00 (plus shipping) complete with manifold and even the weird air cleaner.
To everyone else- should that work OK with his car? The manifold is the short "Mini" style. I know that the 1100 manifold doesn't have the locator rings but will it fit the 1100?
Bill

Bill:

Those 1100 carbs are the same as the fixed needle BUT being from a transverse motor the float bowl angle is diferent than a rwd car. The correct bushings need to be installed on each bowl to change the angle.....avail from Moss et.al at about $10 each or so...not a big deal.

"even the weird air cleaner"

yes they had /have an alloy casting ..."Y" type ...so as to use a single filter element housing. probably wont fit on a Spridget but can be round filed.

EDIT......

Just remembered ..the manifold is the wrong angle thus canting the carbs to the wrong angle. Carbs with correct bushings wud b fine tho on a correct Spridget manifold..

I'm fairly sure that you run into bonnet clearance issues with the 1100 manifold on the Sprite. The carbs are angled up and the aircleaners get in the way of everything.
Jeff

CORRECT!!! The 1100 "pipes" are odd for a Spridget fit. "High" angle.

...that's been dredged from my ill-spent youth, so I make scant claim for *total* accuracy... but IIRC, "They jus' don' FIT right!"
