Well that's just a four banger, anybody could put a four banger in a corvette. What would be really cool is to put a TR6 Motor in a corvette and call it a Triuette! Of course we will have to have a new forum for Triuette's ONLY!!! I wonder if I can buy a book on how to do the conversion.

My first post here, but I spend considerable time on several other car forums and love Triumphs.
Hope you don't mind me saying, but this thread reminds me of a recently departed Texan who shoe-horned an American V-8 into another British alloy bodied sports car (disclaimer- not a Triumph) and ultimately kicked Enzo's hindquarters.

Yes, the comparison is obvious. But really, all we are debating, is whether a Cobra would be welcome on the AC forum. I don't know, but I wouldn't expect said Texan to get a warm welcome there (if there had been such things back then).
Personally, I feel there is room for all. Trying to draw a line and say "This is still a Triumph" (with aftermarket wheels, Toyota gearbox, Toyota brakes, etc, etc); but that is not a Triumph (because of a GM engine) just seems silly to me. But obviously, not everyone agrees.
For that matter, I would love to have a Cobra replica. I probably won't put a nailhead Ford engine in it, so I suppose it won't really be a "Shelby" but that's fine with me. (Anyone up for a supercharged small block :laugh: )

The Cobra replica crowd in the US is funny about what you put under the hood, even though Carroll Shelby approached GM first, before Ford. GM was apparently too busy with their Corvette racing program.
Interestingly, in the US even for Cobra replicas, if it doesn't have a blue oval engine under the bonnet many owners/admirers get kinda gassy about it. On the other hand, the guys (and girls) in South Africa and Australia will put a Chevy engine in them in a heartbeat. Different strokes...
Now... back to our regularly scheduled Triumph programming.

I'll beat this dead horse just to weigh in. As a triumph owner, the triumph forum is where I hang out, and in so doing I have grown to know and appreciate the crowd here. My triumph is basically stock because much of the character and sound of the straight six was what attracted me to the car in the first place, as well as the styling, but I am by no means a purist. I am a car enthusiast and I like all types and, I really appreciate those people with the skill to create vehicles rather than just repair or maintain them. I like being able to make one bookmark on my browser for Triumph Forum and get triumph advise while getting a little variety as well. There are plenty of topics we share here that have little to do with actual triumphs. Sure, the above mentioned car would fit in the "other cars" category, but it also fits here because it sure as heck looks like a triumph to me. An LS1 engine in a TR6 seems not much more sacrilegious to me than shoving a Rover V8 in, say, a TR7.

It's very simple. No one is forced to read every thread. If you see one that you don't like, don't read it. It is better for everyone that way and the complaining and negative commenting will slowly cease to happen.
Modified cars are not going away, whether some people want them to or not. Improvements are a good thing and there is no reason not to see them. Each person is the judge of what they feel is tolerable for them, but that doesn't mean they should try to force their views on everyone else. When you reach your limit, stop reading. Plain and simple, but allow others to have their point of view even if it doesn't match yours.

We do all have different tastes, abilities and budgets to do with our cars what we wish. I like seeing the creativity and improvements folks have made, and have incorporated some variations into my cars as well. Perhaps instead of sending cars like Calvin's beautiful TR6 (and it is beautiful, I saw it in Texas at the BritishV8 meet) to the "Other Cars," or moving this thread, they could create a "Purists Only" forum to appease that crowd. I'm guessing it wouldn't get much traffic.
