TR6 How To: LS1 powered Triumph TR6, in detail

Just imagine the look of humiliation on the face of the Mustang or Camaro driver who gets his doors blown off by that car.....

So? It still aint a Triumph..... and who cares about Camaro's & Mustang's here?

We really need a Hot Rod section to get cars like this out of the Triumph forum....it is anything but one.

BTW, 409 HP at the wheels is not that much for a properly tricked out new Camaro or Mustang.

My buddy's 2012 Mustang GT would destroy that car in a straight line and in cornering.

My 14 year old Ferrari would eat it for lunch on the track.

It is a hot rodder car.... wish we had a forum for it.

GBR.....Well we don't have a forum for hot rodding, so when a post is answered with a bit of intended humor in it, perhaps you shouldn't take it so seriously and get upset over nothing.

I am well aware of the power available in modern muscle cars. It was intended as a humorous look at a potential situation that could occur on the street.

Try to lighten up a bit. Whoever owns the car can do whatever they want with it and should not be subjected to criticism from someone with different views on what conditions cars should be left in.

I was criticized here for "what I did to a former owners car". Once I paid for it and took the title it became MY car and I can do whatever I want with it, just like anyone else. I appreciate concours cars as much as the next guy, but I also like resto mods. There is room in this hobby and on this forum for both, whether you like it or not.

You argue like a seven year old. Your buddy's Mustang weighs fully one thousand pounds more than Calvin's Triumph, so there's absolutely no way it can accelerate as hard. I think you resent people with more skill, knowledge, and creativity. You want to be the center of attention. (Ferrari owner, eh? Funny how you keep reminding people of that... on a Triumph forum.) There's plenty of room on this playground for a few threads about upgraded Triumphs.

If we did that, then we'd also have to have a concours forum.

Let's move on, shall we?

Thanks,
Mickey

7? I am at least at the 9 year old level.

Your arguments are interesting and have some merit in a Hot Rod forum. Worthless in a Triumph forum so I'll skip the response to most of what you posted.

I am a car enthusiast and think, like any decent car show, that classes of cars have their merit. Car shows have their judging and awards based on the class of the car...one of which is Hot Rods. This forum should include one as well.

What's next? We going to get a lesson on how to tune an LS1 on the Triumph forum?

Just sayin'

...Sorry Mickey. You can ban me if you want.... I may deserve it, but I speak my mind.

No, I can't ban you - that's up to Basil.

Speaking one's mind is fine. Just asking that we remember his efforts to keep things civil.

And I wasn't singling anyone out here, even though I quoted your post.

Just sayin'... :smirk:

Golly you should have! I am the one that kinda started it!

Look, saying that TR6 can beat a mustang, yadda yadda yadda is all fine and good but do we really need to tie up bandwidth on a Triumph forum with that banter?

Unless I get attacked again, I'll beg out.... But leave with the request to add a Hot Rod / Modified section somewhere.

Your resident 7 year old signing off

I don't think we need a hot rod forum. There is nothing wrong with improving the factory cars. Calvin's car is awesome and radically improved, but there are many other minor non-stock improvements we have all made to our TRs. My TR4A no longer has a stock alternator...I replaced the stock lever shocks with shocks through the coils...not stock, and I even added (gasp) Fuel injection instead of carburetors. Heck, my seat covers are vinyl too, not leather. I guess I should go to some other forum....
Calvin's car is a Triumph. Chevy powered, but still a Triumph.

People naturally focus on the LS1 engine, but the article illustrates a world of other ideas that are usable by a diverse cross-section of TR6 enthusiasts.

For example, it shows how Calvin reinforced a stock TR6 frame and how he made the TR6 rear suspension more readily adjustable:

Rear disc brake conversion is another example.

Chassis (and brake) upgrades were the first thing that I wondered about. That engine has enough torque to twist the stock frame into a pretzel. Ok, maybe not.

Yes all of this stuff is interesting. BUT mostly irrelevant when it comes to your basic unmolested TR. With all due respect, <span style="text-decoration: underline">I do believe </span>there should be a special area for <span style="font-weight: bold">"ALTERNATIVE POWERED/MODIFIED VEHICLES - ALL MARQUES"</span>. The Triumph area could then continue to focus on these cars as designed and produced complete with their problems/solutions.

I think that there is enough room on this forum for any and all types of TRIUMPH'S. There are a lot of stock "as off the showroom floor" out there but there is the skill and imagination of the BCF people that really intrigues me. There are plenty of books on how to restore your TR as original but I have never seen a book on how to install a LS1 motor in a TR6, and make it look awesome.

AND IMO if a TRIUMPH no longer has its original power plant it is no longer a TRIUMPH.

BTW, where would you put a post about a corvette powered by a TR-6 6-cyl engine?

How about an area called "EVERYTHING ELSE"

It is not like the writer has corrupted or somehow damaged the Triumph reputation. If you don't like to read about it, then skip it and go on to the next post. The title was clear what it was about.
