How to Fire a Restorer?

UmmYeahOk said:
I wonder though, being a collision place it's possible that they put other cars first since those customers are without a car or renting

Usually at collision shops Insurance jobs get the priority. That is where they make the best money. If your jobs weren't insurance jobs, that would explain it.

3/4 of so-called restorers dont belong in business and no-where near a british sports car, with tools in their hands.I have seen a lot of the destruction these butchers do. Those who call themselves experts are usually not. It is a name given by others out of respect. Remember- God loves a humble man.

I thought $800 was a lot.

It worked out well for me in the end. A lister from another TR group offered me a spare for $400. It is a virtually no rust original TR4A solid axle frame. So if you add up the $500 I paid originally and the repair parts from the original frame, I'm in just over $1000 for it.

And it's perfect.

Hi John,
Business is business, look at it like a transaction not a friendship. If he earned your friendship by good previous business that's different. You set a goal/ time frame he hasn't met. Any responsible guy would either tell you it is a filler project or make some progress. He is either unmotivated,a flake or so busy your job doesn't pay what his other jobs do etc. You get the idea.
There are plenty of good shops that get er done so to speak, just tell him plans have changed and you need to take the car. It was his privilege to have your job as work , now it is time for someone else too make some money and a new customer.

Cheers!
