How much oil in the tranny?

How much transmission oil do you put in the transmission? Is it bad to have too much? The Haynes manual is unclear, it just says to "top it off".

Thanks.

Re: How much grease in the tranny?

do you mean oil? Well, hopefully you do. If so, use the same oil as you use in the engine-- I use 20w-50. There was a specific amount listed in the manual i use but the level didn't quite come to the bottom of the fill hole. I added more until it was just about to overflow the fill hole. That's the forum answer, "fill it 'til it's about to overflow but not quite."

Re: How much grease in the tranny?

Yes, oil. I edited my original message to correct it. Thanks for that and the links.

Re: How much grease in the tranny?

Darwin, make sure the car's on a level surface, then fill until the oil starts to drip out of the fill hole.

Then, drive! :driving:

Re: How much grease in the tranny?

That's what I did and it took about 2/3 of a quart.

Hmmm, I may have messed up after all. The stuff I put in was 80/90 weight. I just looked in the book and it says 20W/50 motor oil. I have never heard of a transmission taking motor oil.

Re: How much grease in the tranny?

Oil is the answer and 20w 50 is the number. I got that one right just messed up with the steering rack

Drain the thick stuff out overnite and replace with the same thing you are useing in the engine.
