TR2/3/3A Horn Gremlin

Hi all,

I have a TR2 gremlin causing mischief. A couple of weeks ago while out for a nice Sunday drive, her hooter went on and I could only get it to stop by pulling the fuse (naturally it happened at 3pm outside an old-aged home). I've checked the wiring in the trafficator and for fraying at the base of the harness where it exits the steering box and can't find any problems from that side.

Incidentally, I'm not sure how many have the misfortune of needing to take apart their trafficator, but if you have an aftermarket version (mine's from Moss) then you may want to swop out the 2mm washers on the springs of the trafficator arm for 3mm washers instead as I've found that these little washers can get under the lip and crack it (photos attached).

Anyway that's a side story. I would be grateful however if anyone could point me in a direction of what to check to get the horn system functional again (the little old ladies would also be grateful I'm sure).

Start at the horn. Disconnect the ground wire (brown/black) and see if the horn stops. If it does not, then your problem is in the horn itself. If it does stop, now use an ohm meter on the open lead, and follow the connectors. It should read open circuit, unless you press the horn button. Follow back to each connector, unplug it, and check the leads for ground. You will eventually narrow the short do one section of wire...and that is your problem...
