hood [bonnet] release broken cable

Thanks again. I have a glimmer of hope from some guys on the Positive Earth Driver's Club, seems they are in Jersey. Maybe one of them can sneak over there and help us out.

Ivandyke,

Here is a shot from a different angle -hope it helps:

This is from a 1975 Midget, by the way.

Cheers!

Nial is in New Jersey though I'm not sure where

Are you on the Spridgets mailing list?
Some NJ members there for sure, I can think of one from Toms River off hand...
That SpriteNut might be listening here too.

:jester:

Nope, no mailing list. Could you put out the call for me? So far no takers. I guess I can try to orchestrate a mobile mechanic of some sort. We have Speed Wrench around here not much luck so far finding something similar in Jersey.
This is begging the question. Who is legally responsible for this vehicle now and who owns it? The title is at the port, filled out by me but not yet signed by the buyer. The money is in my possession. i made no deal with the transport people I have no idea who is responsible for what. I guess I should have asked all this BEFORE.

Jeff, you've got a PM from me.

I supose we now have to ask for the story on the BMW.

I don't think it has all the new safety measures one finds on newer BMWs. Like where are the airbags.

taking the picture?

Now that the latch has been sprung, what is the easiest method to repair it? I won't be doing it but I'm trying to give the new owner an idea of what he will have to do.
Route cable under latch hole, gain some slack by loosening elsewhere, pull cable up through hole, attach to latch, tuck back under, bolt latch back on, pull cable taut and refasten where ever it had been loosened.
or remove upper shroud. (no idea how much work is involved in that).

Naaa, just tell him the installs procedure is, ready for this, ??

The reverse of the removal, lol.

Boy that felt good.

My '62 only had a pull rod in the fenderwell.

I ALWAYS run an emergency bonnet cable on all square body Spridgets.
A length of wire hooked around the bonnet latch lever and run it to the inner left fender with a large washer on it.
Now even when you want to work on the car, just reach under the fender and tug the wire.
I still keep the interior bonnet cable but having had more than one break at the most inconvenient time, the extra external cable is piece of mind. And more convenient. A simple wire (copper or something that will not rust) and a loop or washer on the end. A wire tie to hold it up inside the fender and it's done.
