Honest!!

I'd love it.
What's the story with the J-H behind it?

If you don't, I'll come get it & drive it around Alabama!

I hang out over at Ferrari Chat sometimes, because I like reading about the older Ferraris out there. In one thread, there was discussion about an early 166MM Barchetta (ser # 0052M) that made it's first public debut since 1959. The fellow who bought the car DID NOT do a restoration on it. It is totally original...warts and all. He just went through all of the mechanicals and got is safe to drive.

Below is a link to the thread. It's about 10 pages long, but if you scroll through the pages, there are lots of pics of the car with it's patina.

If this guy can drive his million dollar Ferrari around with all the peeling paint, you should have no shame driving around your MGA. Remember, they are only original once.

Check this out,one more shot. See the road and the fence in the back ground? Thats a hill there guys, and I drove the beast up it.I had to hit some pretty high rpm's in 1st gear to make it,rooster tailed a little sod too.

Now there's a car with CHARACTER!!!!
I love it. That's what being a car guy is all about.

I must agree. I looks like a car that is admired for living and surviving. The character of the look means so much more to me that a 100 point restoration. And I would be honored to drive it or ride in it anytime.

Be honest, would any of you guys drive this car as is? It's road worthy.
Sure !

Makes me wish I'd taken "before" photos of the "wanna be" ... hardtop was a mixture of rust red primer and rust; while the clearcoat on the body was flaking off in sheets. It's been on club drives, and to shows (although not entered in the judging), and all my girlfriend said was "Are you going to leave it like this ?"

No wriggle room here, just the truth.

Not only would I drive it with pride, I'd show it. I'm getting kind of sick of shows being more about glitz and shine than about cars and community.

If I were to do anything with it, I'd express my twisted sense of humor with a detailed engine bay and a few polished bits under the hood. 8)

In a skinny minute. I would not know how to act if I had one that, new to me, looked better than this. My current "jewel" is an '80 MGB LE that does not look this well and I drive it to campus nearly everyday. My students love it; it draws them like a magnet. College kids can appreciate what the "B" will look like when it is resored.

This "A" just exudes "I am a work in progress, and wait till I am finished!".

lol

I've driven worse! I have a three main rules that determine if I will drive a car: 1. does it start when I turn the key? 2. Does it go when I hit the gas? AND 3. Does it stop when I hit the brakes? The rest can be corrected with time, money and elbow grease.

WOW...Well thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you like it. But...what have we learned from this? One thought comes to mind,..and it's not to ask any of you guys to inspect a car for other forum members. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif

You needed this thread to illustrate that?!?

*sheesh*

...it's like askin' an alcoholic to sample a poor batch of hootch... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

True, to him there'd be no bad batch!
Oh, wait, duh, the obvious...hehehe

Yes. Yes & She does. Let me explain. The paint on my MGB is basically the same, color & condition (no primer showing, though). I try to make it to shows when time allows, to support the show more than anything & yes, my wife drives with me all the time. Kids, too. The mechanicals have been pretty much rebuilt; it's stock. Drivers seat ripping, tunnel carpet original & poor condition. 20 + year old repaint in the condition of this A, like I said.

Another thought, I should have asked how many wives will ride and be seen in the cars,...with us.

My wife says I dress like a homeless person.

If I owned this car, I wouldn't touch a thing appearance-wise that was not a safety issue. I'd spend my precious time and hard earned $$ on getting from point A to point be as rapidly as possible, with the abilty to get there in a twisty turny kinda way. That way when Billy and Bobby try to impress you with their new - insert brand here - you can leave them with blank looks and jaws in their laps. Ok, maybe that's just my opinion...... LoL
