Be honest, would any of you guys drive this car as is? It's road worthy. Would you take it to shows, or to the store,or on a Sunday cruz. Would your wife ride with you?
No wriggle room here, just the truth.

Yes, so long as it's safe. I'd rather own a rough driver than a trailer queen. It's a helluva lot more fun.

I'm not sure those TR-6 wheels are going to cut it though. It must rub the fenders ferociously!

I sure would, as Steve said it must have some aspects of reliabilty. Paint it flat rat black where it is missing the paint and have a blast. Some of the most fun cars to drive are reliable ones that you are not worried about.

Patrick

I would drive it. I would maybe add a little paint on the door that closely matches the rest of car or a big white circle with a number in it. I agree with Steve, the tires may hit the fenders as the suspension moves up and down. I think the car has great potential as is or a refurbish/restoration project.

In a heartbeat.

That one looks great. I see one occasionally in a town I visit on business that looks like it hauled gravel(several times) in past.
When a rat comes to a club function, it gets more attention than any of the other cars. People are checking for originality, straightness, potential, etc.
Almost all of our cars on the road in any of the marques have been restored at some point. I would gamble that this one has seen new paint at some point, but where would you be afraid to drive it? Except maybe your side of the family's reunion.
Looking at the picture again, I would almost do something to accent the missing paint. I looks like an artists canvas that is just dying for attention. Something as simple as a roundrel with a number to the extreme of teeth top and bottom with the oval shaped dangly section being the uvula(sp). Kind of a Rolling Stones thing.
Wow, I glad it's Friday.

As would I... Heck, it looks better than my beater/driver '66 B and I drive that all the time... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

As long as it goes and stops and doesn't drip too much on the driveway... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Why not? My wife would get a kick out of it too.

I just wouldn't drive it too long, since it has the wrong badge on the front for me to drive.

Just kidding guys....

I know, I know. Move on already.

I'm going back over to the enlightened zone.

B.O.R.

Sure! Why not? At the very least when someone says nice MG mister they would be right this time. I would also check the body and frame support structures behind those rockers carefully though.

DNK,

Wow, that's an improvement... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Look, there's alot of rust down on the bottom under the doors. That makes it quite obvious the the car is ready to fold in half. That is VERY UNSAFE. I will do you a big favor however. For a small fee, I will come and take that rattletrap off your hands before you get hurt. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif

Brosky...

No, No,, I think the car you usually drive has the wrong badge.. MARK my words.. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Great comments, thanks. I do drive it,been driving it for over 10 years like this. The frame is ROCK solid.Doors shut with a nice thud. Its original right down to the worn out carpet.Old Motorola AM radio still works. One old repaint in the 70's. The TR6 tires dont rub, shocks and springs are good.Check out my phoney KO's on the wheels.I have the original wheels/tires.The TR6 wheels are just to annoy the MGA purist guys,(I tell them it's a twin cam) and cut down on rpm's.I took this car 75 miles to Detroit to the Battle of the Brits a few years back. 65/70mph on I-96.I love this car,but I have one old Brit car friend who cant stand this car,as it is.He's a philistine. He just made remarks again the other day.
DNK, I like the slummin bit. It's my life in a nut shell. It keeps the blue haired ladies away. I like the raw aluminum too.....polished someday.

I'd be honoured to drive it.

Mmmmm, the air over here in the MG forum is *different*!

It looks better than my '61 MGA when I got it and I drove that around. Passengers had to hold their feet up since the wood was rotted away on that side.

Now there's a car with CHARACTER!!!!
I love it. That's what being a car guy is all about.
The list goes like this; drive it like you stole it!
keep it unique!
make sure it can be parked anywhere!
please yourself with the ride!

Dave

P.S. I would buy it and drive it in a minute!!

I'm shocked that the tires don't rub. The offset is WAY off from what it was designed for. If you like the TR wheels, you can have the rims removed and re-welded at the proper offset. It would probably help the handling and make steering lighter.

I love how original the car is though. I'd give it a "decent" paint job and keep driving. You might want to address that rocker rust before it becomes a bigger project though.
