high torque starter???

does anyone know of a company producing high torque starters for a-series motors???
 
sorry...maybe i need to clarify...we have a datsun 5 speed rivergate conversion...
 
Rivergate fits a stock starter, so, the APT part should bolt right on. Call Rivergate and verify though.

Of course there is also the Isuzu starter that is a reduction type and bolts right on,,,,

Be aware that there are two starters for the Trooper; #17155 and #16878. The 17155 is smaller and is a direct bolt in with no clearance issues. The problem is that it is no longer available over the counter. The one they sell over the counter is the 16878 and you may have to move the brake and clutch lines that are in the engine bay on the front of the passenger side foot well. Your best luck for finding a 17155 is the junkyard. My last trip they had one of each. For my track car I use the 16878 since my brake and clutch lines have already been re-routed. I've used it for 2 years and haven't had any ring gear engagement issues.
 
I hope you folks know that the car is supose to be started out of gear with the clutch out. In fact I have enough compression that it is unhappy with the clutch in on starting.

However, clutch out it starts right now.

The issue with the Datsun 5 speed conversion is that you have to cut a hole in the bell housing to make clearance for the Lucas starter. If you switch to the gear reduction starter you don't need to cut the Datsun tranny.
 
yep, starters don't care which way you run the elec.
