Help with trunk lid

i agree with jack.....
its probably bent.
mine is so bad the metal
is broken underneath.
u can bend it back by
simply leaning on it heavy...

the prop is totally the cause......z

I know a guy who put an early lid on a late model and installed a new late seal. The seal hit the lid where the early seal was supposed to go and the lid would not close right. He changed to an early seal on the lid and it all worked out. Crazy.

OK Jack I'll take it off and check. Least of my problems now, I need to get the Bonnet fitted so I can start driving, oh and the Miata Seats need to go in and electrical for forward tilting Bugeye bonnect needs to be finished, oh and the bonnet needs to shift back 1/2" sp gaps line up better, oh I don't want to think about it. And I don't even want to talk about twhat 8" of rain and gutters overflowing did to my basement last Wed morning.

Simple troubleshooting technique #1:

Remove the seal, now does the panel fit correctly?

If yes: seal is at fault
If no: panel or hinges are at fault

Same issue with my 79. The left side of trunk lid is higher. I wasn't sure if was only my vehicle that had this issue.

I pulled the weatherseal and pushed down on the edge. Still had a substantial gap.

I cut a shims out of some aluminum bar stock and fitted the shim between the hinge attaching point and the body to rectify the gap between the lid and the body. I'm going to have to pull the lid soon, so I suppose I'll work the trunk lid better during that period.

I think that it is the stay that causes it, I have had several cars with a kink there as well.

Not one panel fits correctly.I took the rubber weather strip off the trunk and yes I can get it to fit a lot better.

Any body have a picture of good rubber weather strip?
