General Tech Help With Rusted Weather Strip Channel

Have one of you wrestled with this? Not a nice surprise. When the PO painted the car you'd think this would have been caught, but no big deal--I'll fix it. But I'm hoping there's a way to lift that channel off and tack weld a new one down. Frankly, I might be able to just stop the rust and live with it for awhile, but if that part is 802-060 I guess I can buy a new one--but how would I attach/detach, etc.? Thank guys.

I did not have to do a channel replacement but it is my understanding that is a challenging repair.

In case you didn't notice, Moss also sells a one-piece seal where you get the rubber seal and the fuzzy bit attached to each other and the channel is not needed (p/n 249-607 for black). I think TR6s may have used that seal.
