Help me find the steering thing!

Hi all,
After putting the steering together on my BE, I realize the parts book shows a shim at the top of the inside steering bracket. It was not with all the rest of the parts, boxes, bags, etc. You know the story. It is item 59 in the drawing. Does anyone have a spare they could part with, or could someone tell me the thickness?
Also, I bought a grounding cable which goes from the body to the transmission from AH Spares. It is about 11 inches long, which seems about twice as long as it should be. How long should it be and has anyone purchased one recently that fits the bill?
thanks for your help.

maybe your in luck and the pic is to scale and the "steering thing" is half as thick as the bracket metal...dunno if micrometer thickness matters much... is your sunburst the original color?? I love that rare option (have a 90, crystal white myself)

I thought those were shimmed as needed to align the steering shaft with the rack. The rack mounts are shimmed to get the horizontal angle right and the shaft mount is shimmed to get the vertical alignment.

That is what they are for. You might need two. You might not need any.

Great,
Check to see that the steering column hits the center of the horn ring plastic thing. Shim to suit!
Anyone bought a ground strap recently that is the correct length?

That is the column shim, some cars had none, some had 5.
As someone said, shim as necessary. A couple of washers will work too.

Aye, use washers till you get the correct shim/shims.
