Healey Overdrive Bench Testing

There's a few good articles that show bench testing the Type A O/D while mated to the trans, but is there any reason why the O/D can't be tested separately for initial testing? My thought was to install a dummy input shaft that's typically used to line up the splines. Is 800rpm sufficient to check the O/D pressure level?
 
It'd be a bit messy given that you have to add oil and there isn't much stopping it coming back out again. A battery drill is enough to get full oil pressure but it's a bit hard on it running for more than half a minute or so. At max drill speed you should get about a 2-3 second dip in oil pressure when shifting before rising up to full pressure again. This will correlate to an almost immediate shift when running at road speed. Andy.
