Healey Overdrive Bench Testing

There's a few good articles that show bench testing the Type A O/D while mated to the trans, but is there any reason why the O/D can't be tested separately for initial testing? My thought was to install a dummy input shaft that's typically used to line up the splines. Is 800rpm sufficient to check the O/D pressure level?

It'd be a bit messy given that you have to add oil and there isn't much stopping it coming back out again. A battery drill is enough to get full oil pressure but it's a bit hard on it running for more than half a minute or so. At max drill speed you should get about a 2-3 second dip in oil pressure when shifting before rising up to full pressure again. This will correlate to an almost immediate shift when running at road speed. Andy.

800 rpm are insufficient, the better can be from 2500 3500 RPM 2 HP electric motor with adequate puley
Here you can find the right way to fit one ease and wild testing banck -for separate OD

NOTE: TAKE CARE there are high pressure involved and pieces can be as bullet
-this and also the others 4 articles are very helpful for me-and my 600psi OD
(one AH and one Triumph-A- OD merged, with some new pieces (all the springs)

never forget to see the better photos o Randy FORBES on OD rebuilding work
Here my Google album, that I have utilized for my gearbox and OD work - Randy photos, you can see, are very massive in it,and very detailed-- I can attribute to his contribution a big part of my success
