Healey 3000 tech Q

Guys,
I need to know the distance from wheel mounting surface (WMS) to VMS on a 3000!

Thanks in advance

Cheers/ Jonas

Ok I'll try and explain

I'd like to know the axle width, i.e. the distance from the disc (rotor) face to disc face (on one axle, either rear or front).

Some people refer to WMS when they are talking about the surface on the disc where you mount the wheel.

Thanks/ Jonas

Why do you need this info?

Ok, I have a Healey 3000 Replica which has been run with Volvo axles (55 inch wide axles). I've opted to rebuild the front end using Wilwood Mustang II spindles and Wilwood brake setups incl hubs. I'm building a new crossmember incl towers from scratch and I'll be fabricating upper and lower control arms as well. Since the car had wider axles I thought that it would be a good idea to try and replicate the original as much as possible (w r t measures at least).

Thanks/ Jonas

I've got wire wheels on my 3000 so do not know where you need the measurement. There must be a real 3000 in Sweden you can measure for your requirements. Your original question was a little vague. My car is dismantled for paint or I would measure the "front track width" for you. You are looking for rear and front "track width". On an early 3000 the front track is 2.3 inches narrower than the rear track. The later 3000 [63-67] 1237mm front 1250mm rear. This is information obtained from the internet. I searched "track width austin healey 3000".

The factory shop manual lists the 3000 front track as 48 3/4" and rear track as 50". I don't know how that relates to your requested measure, but it measures from wheel center to wheel center. You can adjust for wheel width to get your desired measure. I think Elrey has the front and rear dimensions wrong. The front track is narrower than the rear track at least on the 100-6 and early 3000. I don't know the BJ8 data.

Yeah Tim, I typed wider when I meant narrower  , I fixed it above. Your figures are for the MKlll. which has less difference between front and rear track width than the earlier 3000s. The 2.3" figure was from a 1959. There were a lot of different measurements on the net. Thanx.

Ok and thanks!
The reason for placing the Q here was the fact that I found several contradicting measures when Googling (which I do know how to do)... Problem with "track" is that it's measured with the wheels so backspacing, rim width interfeares.

I didnt know that it differed front and rear - thanks for that.

I thought that the Q should be easy to solve with so many projects underway...

Thanks again/ Jonas
