I'm curious, how many of your wives have ever driven you car?
I have had my TR6 for nine years and my wife has always managed to wiggle out of learning to drive my car. She can handle a stick. Her first car was a 4-speed Capri. But she has always found and excuse to never learn to drive my TR6. Which has always perplexed me. And, she really doesn't even like to ride in it for very long.

How many of you are in this same boat? Be honest.
 
Jerri has no desire to drive my MG's, never has...daughter borrowed one once for a week while hers was in the shop plus she loved to drive my MG1100 when she was in high school.

Now, Jerri will drive my 380SL or the XJ6.
 
Being the "wife" I should say that it's my car! LOL

We <span style="text-decoration: underline">both</span> drive all the cars. I prefer the MGB and the Alfa, he prefers the the Supra and the MR2. Unfortunately I usually end up driving the Suburban because groceries, kids AND dogs don't fit too well in the 2-seaters.

I will say that these cars tend to be a "guy thing" that many of my girlfriends don't understand. The guys always want a ride and to see the motor etc...the girls don't seem to be too interested. I think their Daddies just didn't raise them right :smile:

My wife also refuses to drive my TR6. She wants nothing to do with it. Yes, she also can drive stick (but has not done so in many years). I honestly think she feels intimidated to drive it.
Oh well, that just means more driving time for me!
 
Yes, mine has - I have mystery yellow paint marks on the driver's door that match the color of the barricades around gas pumps at gas stations. Mystery, I tell you...
 
My wife doesn't know how to drive a stick, so she hasn't even driven my Honda Fit. I've suggested to her that I'd be more than happy to teach her to shift, but she's not really all that interested.

I might even teach her on the Bugeye. I've got a spare transmission after all...

First a group :grouphug: to the posters. Now onto something else "Has your husband ever driven your LBC?" Mine has but only to back it in or out of the garage to make room for something he is doing. Agatha is not for him. He's 6'2" and admits to 250#'s, doesn't like where the windscreen hits his face, just about forehead high. Succinctly he loves to admire and talk about her but hates to drive or even ride in her. I should feel badly but... I DON'T!

Seriously while LBC's seem to be dominated by men I am perplexed. As a female of stature (5') I find LBC's to be just my size. But then again I am a tad tilting, even to sporting an Agatha hair-do - short and looking better when windblown. :driving: (I really wish Basil would put some hair on that person.)

My Dad told me when I was 15 that I had to learn to drive a standard because it may be the only transportation available in an emergency. If you are out somewhere and the only car around is a standard and someone needs emergency care...you should be able to get to a hospital. That might be enough to get your wife interested in learning. If she is like the rest of us, once she hits the clutch, pops it into 4th gear and hears the motor rev up as she takes off...she will be hooked.
The idea that there are so many people who can no longer shift is a concern..but on the up side, it reduces the number who can steal my car!
 
Speaking of learning to drive a stick...my 15 year old has purchased his first car, a 1986 MR2. The fact that he doesn't know how to drive yet did not deter him. He mowed the yards, saved his money, took the test and got his permit.

So, while on vacation a week or so ago, we put him behind the wheel...of the Suburban. He did pretty good.

Last weekend, old son returned to town and was aghast that we were not teaching him to drive in his MR2. He offered to take him out for a lesson.

After the first lesson...young son was frustrated and all old son would say is, "That was scary" (He does possess a greater admiration for us now BTW)

There is a reason driving lessons are left to the parents and a special place in heaven should be reserved for driving instructors! :smile:
 
My wife has driven my TR4, though less than a handful of times - probably due more to my resistance to giving up the keys than her willingness. If I get the TR3A going then the plan is for his and hers LBCs to go to club events. Hate to admit it, but I think she can take it through the gears better than I can.
 
I taught my wife to drive a standard before we got married because we wanted to take my car on the honeymoon and it was a four on the floor (not a LBC). She drove the TR a few times, but could never get the clutch right and always threw graval when she left a stop sign. Now I can not get her to drive the Miata at all.

When my son was learning to drive, we made him learn on the automatic first. We thought he had enough to deal with without the clutch and shifting. He now drives the Miata when ever I let him. The TR is not on the road, so he has never had a chance at it.
 
I've now been married for th' second and last time. FirstWife could heel-and-toe, double clutch downshift as quick as anyone. Trained on 'mercan cars but took to non-sync early MGBs as if born to 'em. Our 'issues' were not automotive.

Horsemits (NOW wife, SWMBO) is equally skilled. Drove a Lotus Cortina Mk-I as her daily for over a decade. Owned a '67 MGB before we were hitched. The current pull-handle B is ~HER~ car.

I'm twice blessed AFAIC. No luckier guy on-planet. Both these gals also sling a mean wrench. 'smits made her own T-shirt: "Wrench Wench"!!!

Don't mess wid da gurls. Some of 'em *will* surprise ya.

My wife has driven all of our cars.

MGB - Not crazy about the styling but found it fun to drive
MGB GT - Loves the car and mentioned selling her car if she could drive the GT every day
MGA - Loves it and drives it on club events by herself when I'm not around
MG TC - Drove it blindfolded in a Funkhana a few weeks ago
MGC GTS - She's not allowed to drive it anymore because the size of the smile of her face scared me
MG YB - Drove it to a wedding by herself and attracted a little too much attention - had to sell that car
Model T - Loves it to death but finds it nerve wracking to drive so she prefers to ride along

My ex would drive my B when her Midget was down. The B never failed to break down on her, leaving me to rescue the car. I guess I should have listened to what the B was telling me. New GF can drive a stick, but is "scared" of the B for some reason. She thinks that Penelope (the B) is my mistress. :smile:

I have only had my TR7 Spider for almost a year, but my DH (Darling Husband) has NEVER driven my car and has been a passenger only once for a mere 2 or 3 miles or so! At 6'6" and 285 lbs, I know Dennis is uncomfortable at best as he is wedged in (pun intended :laugh: ). For meetings and car runs, I usually take what my DH and I jokingly call a Substitute Hubby--longtime friends of ours that pinch hit for him. It's a win,win, win situation...I have driving buddies to keep me company, friends have a fun day, Dennis avoids looking like a Shriner in a tiny car...Hmmm, I may buy him a fez just for fun! Oh, and goggles to afford him a little protection since the windscreen is rendered useless as it hits him mid-nose! Heehee! Keep on driving, Ladies!! :cooler: --Monica
